Staying Positive

We all find ourselves with negative thoughts from time to time.
It can be the terrible traffic in the morning. Or the sudden downpour of rain. It might even be that nagging thought not receiving a 'good night!' text from your sweetheart.
Whatever it is, we all know that we can all go on with our lives without the burden of these negative thoughts. What do you do to stay positive?

When you have the aim, always remember it and it will keep you going. For example if you are running to cross a line and then you fall down before you do,the best thing would be to crawl to make sure you close. So when you keep reminding yourself what you want to achieve at the end you get the energy to keep going

Of course this is hard initially. But once you start to realize that these highs and lows are only phases and you cannot escape them, things start getting easier.
"The best way to come out of fear is to face it" - I hope someone else has said that already, if not, I will be happy to have it patented in my name

@stringer321 ..I wouldn't bother with that one bad comment. I would be spared the time to find five positive things, some of which may turn out to be lies and if it is discovered in future that I lied..hell will break lose.

@vandana7 All right, but, don't let the bad comment just stay there. Bad comments have their effect and they can bother people.
Many comments are like a generalization. If someone tells the other that he is dumb, it means that he is always dumb: now, earlier, yesterday, tomorrow, just all the time.
It is like telling him endless times that he does something stupid. I think it is called an emotional flood. Many people ignore such things, but, in the brain, it has it's effect. Talk positive, always. Use pretty words.

They say that, in relationships, one needs 5 positive complements to make up for one negative comment. For example: one says to his woman he hates her soup that she cooks. He better tell her later he loves her cakes, he loves her cookies, he likes her soup (maybe with some fixes), he likes how she dresses and he likes her attitude. 5 positive complements make up for only one bad comment.

Sometimes we never get a chance to choose. Prayers and being grateful helps a lot as well - that I agree with!

In 1995 when my grandfather passed away, I had a nervous breakdown, the sadness and the incidents keep returning back even now. That incident and a few others - especially when I was on bed for 8 long months in 2008, made me look at things and life in a very different perspective.
And today, I dont care about feeling gloomy, depressed or even being happy or positive. I have learned to accept them as a phase and now I am trying to learn the art of being indifferent to them.

I choose to look at the situation as it really is. If I feel down, I look into myself and look for the reason. Emotions and feelings are really chemicals in our brain, hormones and more...
I sometimes just decide to put the bad thoughts out and think about happy things.
I can also find the good thing within the bad thing. For example, if I got no answer from a good friend, it can be a good reason to ask him personally if he has any problem and that can be a good opportunity to find out about him.
Staying positive has a lot to do with fighting an addiction, it requires a lot of self awareness and control, choosing and deciding what to do.
One more point, don't fight the urge to cry because it is also a natural need. Letting out the tears and the anger (hitting a pillow for example) is healthy more than keeping the feelings inside. That's what I know.

@Tita417 Not just to calm down, but, to keep the health better. Out body makes some materials for the anger and for the sadness so we can use them. If we don't use them like crying or roaring, I think it can make us stress, ulcer...That's what I know.

@allen0187 remember a place where you were either super happy, or one that you have fond memories of, OR create a place like a beach or somewhere you can relax, and sometimes you can just pretend in your head you are there for a little while, it seems to help

I do something positive, that will surely make me happy. Like listening to music, or reading, or writing something from my heart. I feel elated and then the problems cease to be so.

I just think of my family. I know if I turn to negative thoughts or go back to anything that I left, the thought of my loved ones can be the stumbling block for my thoughts to entertain such. I always remember my family and it ends

Good for you that you have family members to turn to. Curious, what you do if the cause of your negative thoughts are family members?

@Tita417 good to know that. Family should be our refuge and source of strength and inspiration... not a source of problem.

@allen0187 yes that is a good question. With my children, I talk to them, We seldom have big problems coz they listen to me. Most problems that we encounter is financial so not really something to ponder over for a long time. My husband not a problem really coz he's not here

For me I try and put things in perspective, that is...try and make them smaller then they may appear in my mind. Sometimes that's not possible though, because let's face it, somethings are important. So I more or less try and take an hour a day and do something that demands all my attention so it gives me a break. Last summer it was going to the lake everyday and getting attacked by ducks...well, the duck thing wasn't planned, it just happened;)
