are old discussions it seems. Every once in awhile, as I navigate around Mylot, I see a discussion in the right hand column under "You Might Also Like" that looks interesting and so I click on it. Each time I find that it is an old discussion. A couple years old or more and many of the responders aren't even active on the site anymore. Is it still okay to respond to these? I usually respond to them to get into a discussion and get a response back. But, in these cases I probably won't. So why would we want to respond to these old discussions and why are being listed like this? I guess I don't get it. Sure I get paid for it but what good does it really do other than that? Should money be the only reason we respond to discussions?

I've noticed that some of those are 7 or 8 years old, so I don't bother to respond. I did ask Alex/Alice about it and he says they are there because of the tags on them, but as the site gets busier they will gradually be replaced with newer posts.

Whether you will earn or not by responding to old discussions is a moot point which I'm not prepared to give you an answer on. The important thing is that it's a discussion and, by responding to it, you may encourage someone to return to MyLot (because they will very likely get a notification by email and wonder why there is suddenly activity on a long-forgotten site). By doing that, you may have done both yourself and someone else a favour and, in addition, may have made a friend. THAT is what MyLot is about! The earnings are just a welcome bonus.

I fully agree with your point of view that if we respond to an older discussion, there is a possibility that the original starter of the discussion may get a notification and may return to mylot. What is more important - our connection and subsequent interaction with fellow mylotters. The knowledge we gain when we interact with fellow mylotters is more than any earning.

@Owlwings I hadn't thought of that - by responding we may well bring back an old member into the fold.

When the site has been quiet I have visited profile pages and scrolled back through the discussions in order to find something interesting. I have responded to some that were around 6 years old. The age does not deter me because if the original commenters are no longer around you could get replies from other members, thus reactivating the discussion.

If you know the other members well enough and respond to someone that is active still. But, if you don't, then you don't get any back.

That is interesting. Wonder if some of the people are still here. I would agree if you do respond to them if they are really old you might get anything back. If they are consider older because they were pushed to the bottom then it might not hurt to respond to them.

Some are but many are not. So it is rather fruitless to respond to them unless you don't care if you get a response back.

Since I just joined last night, I haven't come across any of those, yet. It doesn't seem appropriate to answer old posts.

@DianneN - Hello and welcome to mylot. If you are not sure about the activeness of the mylotter who started the discussion then your response holds true.

There are current discussions there as well. I read and respond if they are interesting. I always think that if it is an old discussion the original poster may get a notification and come back to see what is going on.

Yes, you are more or less right that older discussions started by such users who are effectively inactive on mylot for a long long time, if replied to may not fetch any comments on our responses. I think you could choose not to respond to such discussions. However, if you respond to any of my older post here on mylot, I will receive a notification in this regard and I will surely post my comments on your response.

I've become acquainted with new ones coming over from the B place and then they write on my older discussions..since i'm active here we respond on them and it seems we are getting paid for it..but ones not here doesn't make sense..knowing they will not interact back..

I do not respond to a discussion, new or old, unless I like it. I've noticed a lot of the "you may also like." are older discussions. I think more power to us if we respond to old discussions and get them going again.

I doubt if people are responding back to even a one-year-old discussion. Any older posts are invalid and out of the question.

@ria1606roy - Your doubt is partially correct. My older posts still exist and if anyone responds to any of my older posts, I try my best to comment on the response. The other day, a mylotter friend responded to two posts of mine which I started in 2007. I got a notification and I posted my comments on his response and an interaction followed even on those older discussions.

@dpk262006 that's because you got a notification. But normally viewers view recent posts.
