Has The Village Died?

I remember my childhood and my parents taking us out through and into quaint country villages to watch fetes, country shows, and eat at country pubs. There seem to be no such rural hamlets any more as the towns have expanded to absorb so many of them into their suburbs and outskirts. Is there anything left of the true Dingly-On-The-Dell style idyllic pastoral countryside village any more? Some were so quiet you could imagine occasional hobbits still lurking behind the hedgerows.

Perhaps they only exist in Midsomer. But the residents tend to murder one another at high rates, so that could be why they are disappearing.

hard for people to survive, but I bet they still exist, but have gone into hiding

I thought that happens only in our place where we see uninhabited areas. So sad & so eerie.

To me, there were so many quaint villages and pubs in Scotland, Ireland, and England. I enjoyed them immensely. I just mentioned to my husband that I would love to live in one.
