My 88 year-old mom can't drive any more, so she relies on me for transportation. Yesterday afternoon she called and asked if we could get her some ginger ale this morning. I didn't want her to be thirsty all night, so we went right away.
After we went shopping, I suggested we stop by the beach for a few minutes. It was very relaxing for both of us to watch the tide come in. There were lots of people walking their dogs and hanging out on the beach. We ended up staying for about an hour. It was very cold so it was nice that we could stay in the car and watch.

I love beachcombing and just sitting by water watching gulls and waves - sounds like a perfect day out

@NeldaHoxie Oh, you are so lucky to be near the beach. I love the sea but we live pretty far from the shore. I get to hear and see gulls on the Daugava River that divides Riga into two banks and I enjoy that.

It was a really nice break from writing. However it drove home the fact that it's getting really cold out. I wished I had on a heavier jacket.

I think your mother is fortunate that she can call on you to do things for her, and drive her around.
Over her in Singapore, most of us travel by public transportation, so not having to drive is not a big issue.
The public transport is reliable, but not cheap.

My mom would not be able to jump on and off a bus, so she wouldn't be able to use it. While I could bring her home the drink, I think it's important that she get out and do things.

I grew up near the ocean and it always feels wrong when I am away from it. It makes me very claustrophobic.
