Stocked the freezer with chicken and ground beef

Late last week, I bought large packs of ground beef and boneless skinless chicken breasts (over 5 lbs each) and, until today, hadn't repacked them for the freezer. That's what I did today so I didn't lose either one. Too expensive these days to mess around. I use sandwich bags because they hold a pound of ground burger perfectly. The chicken breasts were so large you'd have thought they were turkey, not chicken, so I cut each of them in half (length-ways), so there are two halves in each sandwich bag for them. I then packed the five bags of each meat into a gallon bag that zipped shut to provide more protection from freezer burn. I did have to remove my box of pumpkin spice waffles to make room for the ground beef, but that's no big deal. Frozen or thawed, they'll still toast up nice. I have one small pack of ground beef in the fridge for me to make something with now. I think I'll make some of my MIL's green chile gravy. It's quick and easy and plenty tasty.

Nothing goes in the freezer unless its in a vacuum sealer bag. In vac. seal bags food can go for two or more years without a problem. I used to use your method, but once we got the vac. sealer it's all or nothing. We had crab meat in there from crabs we caught and picked and it was 4 years old, you can't do that in a regular plastic bag.

I wouldn't mind having a sealer, but I just can't afford it - not the pump or the bags. So, I do what I can. I don't have a deep freeze, so it just goes into the fridge freezer.

Yes - that the same as ground. We use the word mince for finely dicing vegetables, usually, although we do have something called mince meat pie that is probably called that because it used to be made from minced meat and the name never changed as our usage did.
