I used to like AVG antivirus but I stopped using it as it was a drain on my computer and
slowed it down.
Also their protection rating dropped. They want you to upgrade to their paid version through "important updates" or have your protection expire.
Now they are collecting and selling your information.
The privacy policy, which took effect on Oct. 15, 2015 says it will collect non-personal data,
browsing and seacrh history, internet service provider or mobile network you use to connect.
I do not like this at all as it is none of their business.
This just goes to show how far AVG has fallen because at one time it was one of the leading
virus protection companies in the world.
You get what you pay for or in this case what you don't pay for.
I say get a good paid antivirus for your computer, data and privacy is worth it.

I use Lavasoft. They also have a paid version, but the free one works great for what I need it for. Wait a minute....I may be thinking about soap. lol

@Marcyaz Yeah. It's actually called AdAware, but it's through Lavasoft. I do a scan every week and it isolates any potential threats and allows me to delete them. The paid version has a lot more security features, but Windows 10 already has most of them covered so I see no need to pay for it.

Couldn't agree with you more. I use KAV and have for years. I normally install this on all my client's devices. Works fantastic and when ever you plug anything in will scan it for you to make sure it's virus free. Anyhow buy a good one no matter what you buy.

Yeah it drains down computer usage , it slows down and it is not the best antivirus. There is Avast and nod32,

@Marcyaz it's in a list on the computer somewhere, it sits quietly in the background until it 'catches' something then it tells me about it.

I have been using Avira (red umbrella icon) for 5-6 years and i am satisfied with it. I had used Dr Web before, but once it skipped a couple of viruses. As for KAV i think it is good but quite loads system. Nevertheless i use Kaspersky Removal Tool when i need only to check thoroughly either my or my friend's computer.

Every business has to look at ways of paying for 'free' service. A great many sites also collect non-personalised data and sell it in a categorised way such that you cannot be personally identified. AVG are just doing the same as everyone else.
I used AVG for many years but changed to Avast when I saw that they had a better success rate. I try to keep up with the various test results which are published from time to time and always try to use one of the best free solutions recommended. I find that, mostly, the paid versions are only offering 'extras' which can be equally well be covered by 'free' solutions from other companies.
