Do you have dowry issues at your place? There is traditions here that need to be followed when it comes to dowry. For example a son cannot pay dowry if his father has not paid his,a daughter cannot have her dowry paid by the husband if her mother's dowry has not been paid. Incase this happens some misfortunes occur and for sure they do. Do such happen there?

That sounds really confusing. Why not just get married to each other with no dowry.

@jstory07 it has been a tradition since the days of our grandparents and it has gone on till now. It is taken as an appreciation for the girl's parents

In India, sadly this tradition continues and many idiots follow it proudly!! Here in India, the daughter's family are supposed to settle the demands made by the boy's family( which may include cash, a vehicle, electronic appliance etc.) Luckily my family isn't an idiotic one and we don't follow this tradition!! Neither my grandpa demanded, neither did my dad in his wedding and neither will I when I get married!!

@Missmwngi Tradition is not necessarily a good thing. Take female circumcision - people try to tell us THAT'S tradition but the rest of the world sees it as assault.

@boiboing Talk of that FGM we are still dealing with the same here. Some communities won't listen but i am glad some steps have been made so far
