The Increase In Internet Gambling Is Worrying

I have just noticed a gambling site advert here on mylot and it reminded me how we seem to be surrounded by gambling sites at the moment. There are bingo sites, sports bets and online casinos everywhere here in the United Kingdom, every sports showseems to be sponsored by a gambling site and all the adverts on certain channels seem to be littered with gambling adverts. This really can't be healthy for society, with these gambling site the only real winner is the site, punters are just duped into parting with their hard earned cash by the dream of winning big. Let's be honest how many people do you know who have won big? For those who only bet what they can afford to lose I see no issue, it's those who get addicted and then into massive debt I feel sorry for. Gambling can be addictive and the gambling companies should sho a duty of care in the way they go about their business, but they don't as it hits their profits. What are your thoughts on gambling? Is it a good thing or a pastime that can destroy people's lives?m

I have no interest in gambling, no experience of it so have no strong views either way. I think life is one big gamble and in reality I would rather play at life and have fun that way then getting a thrill of spending money at the chance to get lucky

I like a flutter at the horse races @destry but I don't do the Internet gambling thing. I have sadly seen what happens when people get addicted to gambling though, when they lose money they get higher to win it back and over time they get into massive debt. The Internet gambling companies target the weak, sorry couldn't think of a better word, the more those guys lose the richer and more powerful the gambling firms become.

@mrtoffee Thats true, I have noticed that betting shops have developed alot in the past 20 years ago. They used to be rather dank smoke filled portacabins in pub car parks when I was a youngster - now they seem to be as slick and branded as any other high street shop.

@destry and all the machines are now electric and as so they are programmed not to lose, if they pay out its only in moderation. I don't get those who think they can win on the online casino's, it's a computer program and as such is set not to lose, after all why run a business that gives away money.
