Is Anyone on MyLot in a 12 Step Program?

If you are not in a 12 Step Program, then you may not have any idea what I am talking about. When I am talking about a 12 Step program, I mean Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-anon (for families and friends of alcoholics and drug abusers), Overeaters Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Nar-anon (for families of drug abusers), Gamblers Anonymous and, I am sure, there are others. I have been a member of Al-anon for 34 years. I still go to two or three meetings a week and I volunteer to meet one-on-one with newcomers two or three times a week to help them learn more about Al-anon. Several members of relatives have had problems with alcohol in the past, although most have no problem, now. However, I still think it is important to help people who are currently in "the thick of things," so to speak. Have any of you had any experience with a 12 Step program? Are you still active? Once in a while, I will write a little more about the 12 Steps and the AA - Al-anon philosophy. Hope you don't mind!

I think it's awesome that you give back like you do. I have some experience with AA though a former fiancé of mine.

I'm glad you have had some experience with it. I suspect that there is a good reason that your former fiance is a FORMER fiance.

@DeborahDiane Yes, you are correct...it has a thing or two with not being forthright with me about his addiction and status of his recovery. Aye aye aye!

I have never been a member of any of the groups you mentioned but I respect you for devoting your time to these great groups.

@DeborahDiane I think it's very important for friend and family to have support.

That is wonderful that you never liked to drink and, I hope, neither does anyone in your family or circle of friends.

Sadly, a lot of people refuse to go to AA, no matter how much they need to. That is why two of my ex son-in-laws are EX son-in-laws. Our daughters couldn't take it any longer.

@DeborahDiane You are right, my friend. This support program helps our cancer patients to still hope to live longer & have better lives.

I am glad that there are support groups for people with diseases, too. They are needed.

I would be interested in reading your post about the 12 step, but I personally do not have any experiences with it. I think it is awesome of you to help others like that.
