Orthodontist news

My kids had their orthodontist appointment this morning and we got some good news (in a sense) and some not so good news (in a sense). Depending on how you look at it determines which is the good news. The girl (13 years old) is still not ready for her braces, though they feel she should finally be ready for them in about 4 months. The boy (11 years old) is ready for the first stage of his braces. He will be starting with headgear in about a week and then a retainer about a month after that. The only reason for the separate times is that the retainer takes longer to make. The headgear only has to be worn at night but the retainer needs to be worn all the time. These two devices are supposed to start correcting his significant overbite so that the braces can fine tune the teeth in about a year. This means that we have to start paying for this part of the process soon for him, but we get to wait at least 4 more months before we start paying for the girl's braces. Now I need to find a way to squeeze $250 a month out of our tight budget for now and even more come 4 months or so from now. The hard part will be finding that money when I can only cut about $50 out of our budget. I can pick up a few hours, but I'm limited to less than 20 hours a week. We'll manage, we always do, but it means that it will be even longer before I can get my own vehicle again. I still haven't decided which was the good news and which was the bad.

I know its hard to find the money but it will be there for you or perhaps make a deal with the doctor for smaller payments. Good luck. I know your son will be happy to have his done.

He's not looking forward to it, but I know he'll be happy once it's done. We will find a way to make it work, it just won't be easy.

I was very fortunate with my kids when they were growing up as neither needed braces. I don't know if I could have afforded it at that time because I was a single Mom.

I wish they didn't need them as I don't know how we are going to pay for it, but we will find a way.

Braces are expensive.. I just took my son for a dental appointment.. and the money involved really scared me.. But then I have no option.

That's kind of how I feel about their braces. They are so expensive but they both need them, so there isn't much of an option about it.

That's a lot of money to come up with each month. The orthodonist won't spread out the payments for two kids?

Right now we are just going to have to pay for the one, but will eventually have to pay for both. They spread the payments out for how long they think the child will be in the braces, they don't want anyone still owing money once the braces are taken off.
