Published my first E book - It was easier than you think

So I have always wanted to write a book. Actually I have two in the works. One quite serious about life in corporate America. It's been in the hopper since...1991. Guess that will be my big goal to finish that one and get it published.
The second one is a Children's book and the writing is going quite well. It is rather simple to write it in Word format and upload it as an E book. The real challenge is I want to have pictures. I actually have them all, so I have to read the tutorial on putting them in. I am so into the writing though, I don't want to squash my creative writing juices by having to read some technical stuff. So once I end the book, then I will add the pictures.
The book I published is a short read as it is called. Actually though I packed a lot of information into the minimum pages to get the ideas across. I priced it low and Kindle Unlimited folks can read it for free rather than purchase it. I do get royalties though from pages read.
Funny thing is the first one I got out had nothing to do with my education or work experience. It actually came out of a hobby that ended up making me some money. So what is it? I wrote a book on Winning at Casino Slots for the Gaming Challenged. I started casually going to Tribal Casinos with a friend who is extremely good at Keno. I got a bit bored and started playing slots instead of Keno.
The bottom line is having a teaching background (and math) I felt all things can be improved with study, practice and investigation. So I did this with slot machines and had some phenomenal results. It was actually at the urging of some of the casino employees who saw this that I wrote out my "secrets" if you will. I decided not to fill up a long book with random comments about odds, how the machines work or how to get comps like most I have seen out there. I stuck with what has worked for me and how I came to the issues.
So once I started writing, the book just flowed quite easily. The self publishing site was quite user friendly and off I sent it. You may not get rich writing an E book, but just the satisfaction of seeing your work in print and more so if I help one person with it...that is a great day.
If you have dreamed of publishing a book, thanks to a good technical site and a bit of motivation, your dream can be a reality. I wonder how many have thought about it, but haven't done that extra push? It really is easier than you think. Good luck!

Congratulations! I wrote my first one last year, a year ago last week to be exact. It was just me testing the waters, but I wrote a short one about the Stevia plant, called Stevia: The Wonder Plant.
It is a lot easier than most people think and it has supplemented my income fairly well!

@asfarasiknow Thank you for the feedback. Now the trick is to get people to read it and review it. I am releasing a children's book soon to test the waters as to what genres work.

@wiLLmaH Good luck to you. I find the biggest challenge is to get your book promoted. If you are not charging a lot, it is hard to justify paying these firms who market with a high price tag. Guess you have to blog and use social media...and hope someone reviews your book. Many of the free promotion sites require you to have so many reviews and a rating of 4 stars and above. I will let you know how it turns out and make sure to tell me about yours.

Thank you so much. I went back to read my last paragraph. I do hope it does inspire anyone who is on the fence about it. You really have nothing to lose if you try.

Thank you. It was a goal reached even if it is a short read. I do hear the real issue is getting people to see it and getting reviews. Some in the ebook forum said it took a year to get even one review.

It's one thing to talk about publishing an ebook but quite another to see it through - well done.

Thank you so much. The good news was the technical part was not bad at all. I know it is one thing to get your thoughts together and write them down, but the dread of a big technical issue could be a distraction. Thankfully, mine went smoothly from cover design to formatting. I know I held off quite a while since I thought that part would be hard. I want to encourage people to not be distracted by the technical..worry about those wonderful ideas...and the rest will follow nicely.

This is amazing. Congrats. I wish I could write a book. There just really isn't a whole lot of time to do so.
