Quick Update on Mama

Ok everyone thank you so much for your prayers and positive thoughts. Please keep them coming because she is not out of the woods yet. On Monday they completed a colonoscopy and endoscopy on her. The colonoscopy showed 5 areas with tics in them so she has diverticulitis. However, this does not explain the hemorrhaging. They gave her a very small camera to swallow yesterday (Tuesday). As of last night it had not made its complete journey through her bowel system. She is still on a liquid diet and she is hating it. Monday was a very bad day because during the endoscopy she woke up as they were putting the tube in her mouth and down her throat. They had to give her a second dose of anesthesia and then when it was time to reverse the anesthesia they had to double dose her once again. When she came out of it she was confused and combative. Her throat was hurting and she had no idea where she was or what was going on. The staff explained this to me as being common when it was necessary to use so much anesthesia and then the reversing process called for a double dose as well. It scared the heck out of my daddy, sisters and my son David. They put her in ICU and restrained her arms and staff were working on trying to calm her by massaging her legs. By the time I was able to go visit her on Monday evening they were getting ready to move her from ICU and put her on the telemetry ward. I stayed with her for a few hours and helped settle her in the room. I brushed her hair and helped her wash up a bit. She still could not remember what happened while she was woke up from anesthesia or fighting everyone. I called her on Tuesday evening and made plans to go see her this afternoon (Wednesday). I am going to help her get a full shower and that should perk her up some more. She is anxious to go home but I am not sure when that will happen. I am trying to talk her into coming and staying with me for a week or so when she is released. So there is still more to learn and even though she sounds much better she is not out of the woods yet. Please continue to pray and send positive thoughts.

How scary for your Mom and you. I would be really freaked out if I woke up during the procedure. When will you hear the results of the endoscopy?

The scare during the endoscopy really was bad for her and it freaked the rest of the family as well. Everyone who was in the ICU room with her as she was coming down and still struggling were very upset to see her in that state.

@simone10 Thank you very much. She says she is ok now but she rarely complains about anything so I am not sure she is telling the truth.

@Shellyann36 I have had an endoscopy done before and thankfully I was completely asleep the whole time. It was a fear of mine that I would be awake during the procedure. I really feel for your mom. I hope she is feeling better now.

Sorry to hear about your mom, at least once they gave her the second dose she was able to stay under. There is a small percentage of individuals where anesthesia doesn't work for them at all and they are awake during all procedures. I didn't realize a person could swallow a camera to get images of the colon, I hope they find the source of the bleeding.

@MarshaMusselman it really scared her when she woke up during the endoscopy. The camera is small about the size of a large pill and it can travel all the way through the digestive system. It is quite amazing technology.

@GardenGerty thank you, at the moment it looks as if they are just putting her off on her regular doctor. It infuriates me.

I've got all of you in my prayers, I hope she'll stay with you, that way maybe the twins and lil Keith will help you cheer her up. I'm also praying that your sisters and dad will be helping you while she's there. Your mom is so lucky to have so many who love her. I'm also praying that you won't get over stressed, taking care of little ones is one thing but to take care of a parent is entirely different, hopefully you'll get all the help you need to lessen the stress on you.

Thank you so much! I was finally able to get caught up on my sleep. I wish my mama would come and stay with me for a week or so but she is not going to do it.

Oh no @Shellyann36 I'm so sorry. It would be so good for her to have you cater to her and then have the twins to cuddle with, but I kinda get it too, nothing is better than my own bed, that's probably what she's thinking. well, you tried.

Gosh that sounds unpleasant. When you read about those procedures you don't find out about all the unpleasant aspects. I hope she is back to her normal self soon and they identify the cause of her illness and are able to treat it.

Yes she really had a bad experience but she was willing to go through it again. The doctor told her that they would use a different anesthesia on her this time. I really want them to get the biopsy on the polyps done.

Thank you so much. They need to do a biopsy on the polyps they found. I will feel much better after they get the biopsy done.
