Why the Jews

Why the Jews is the title of a book from a few years ago, written by Dennis Prager, exploring the various reasons for antisemitism in the world. It's one of the most puzzling things on earth, to me: people who make up less than 1/3 of one percent of the world's population are loathed by countless millions. I saw a comment on Facebook the other day about Bruce Springsteen, where one woman referred to him as "another Jew hand picked to help take over." I was floored by the comment. First, Springsteen is Catholic, not Jewish. Second, who "hand-picked" this guy who floundered in obscurity for years, then critical but not commercial success for more years before the massive hit album Born in the USA? Bad pick, if you ask me: it seems Elton John, the Bee Gees, or Michael Jackson would've been better picks. Why do people hate Jews so much, to the point where they lambaste non-Jewish singers like Springsteen (not Springstein) when they think he might be Jewish? PS - yes, I do realize I'm probably stirring a hornet's nest by asking this.

I'm sure it would be an interesting read. Certain Jews tick me off. For example, Arthur Rubinstein. Once I heard him play Chopin's Nocturnes, I can't listen to anyone else play them. He puts so much emotion--pathos--into them, nobody else can compete. And then there's Sigmund Freud, another Jew. Every time I think I can explain everything way using Behaviorism and Humanism, something happens that makes me realize his Psychodynamic approach to Psychology was brilliant. And those classic jazz tunes performed by the likes of Louis and Ella, and Keith Jarrett? Many were written by dang Jews! What gives them the right to write so much timeless music? Even in the classes I teach, Jews often make me mad. When I get a student question that really makes me think, and maybe have to do a little extra research, who is most likely to ask it? A dang Jew. And then that same student will have the nerve to get an A in my class and thank me respectfully for a great class, so I can't even get mad at them for making me work extra hard. And to make matters worse, you know who's hardest on Jews? Jews! Yep, Jews tick me off. I should read that book.

I'd add a few Jews to your list: Neil Sedaka, Neil Diamond, and Steve Goodman. Seriously, the book is excellent.

@FourWalls Yep, I thought of Steve Gooman. And among Chicago blues harmonica players, Corky Siegel is Jewish, I think. Paul Butterfield may have been too--I'm not sure.

Inadequate people always look for people to blame and when they see a group that seems to have over-performed in terms of success and achievements compared to the norm, they pick on them. Then add in the 'blame for killing Jesus' nonsense (nobody seems to hold that against the Romans) and you've got a great victim. But Springsteen as Jewish? That's more funny than anything.

No doubt a person with a genius level IQ thinks his name is "Springstein."

I have never understood antisemitism, either. I do like Dennis Prager, a lot. But I think persecution has always followed God's people, Jew or Gentile.
