Hebrews 10:35-36 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. A lot of people need a boost of confidence. It's one of those things motivational speakers like to speak about, besides wanting us to buy whatever they're selling. It doesn't take much to lose our confidence. Just have something you've worked hard on and you thought would do well and get a good grade, or you thought was a great contender in a contest you entered, and instead it flopped, or someone made fun of it, and you wanted to throw in the towel and never try again. The writer of Hebrews shows us we are not to cast our confidence away from us. Instead we should pick ourselves back up and keep trying, because one day we will succeed, just like those motivational speakers talk about. What goes hand in hand with confidence? Patience. I've heard many times we are not to pray for patience because God will give us lots of reasons to have patience. You don't need to think too far back to find something you needed a lot of patience for. I bet you also found yourself doing a lot of praying during that time. From what I read here in this verse, patience builds up our confidence. But it also goes further. There's a great promise attached to having confidence and patience. It's finding it doing God's will. If there is one thing that often causes me the jitters, makes me shake from head to foot, it's talking to a lot of people about anything. No matter what the subject, the fear factor is ever present that I'll make a mess of whatever I'm doing or been asked to do. When God is doing the asking, it takes confidence that He will be standing right beside me calming my fears and giving me the patience I need to do all He requires of me. Have you found the same thing? Does fear take a hold of you when God asks you to do something you've never done before? Notice what the author of Hebrews says. God will reward us. It's His promise to us for doing His will. So we just need to take ourselves in hand because God will never ask us to do anything we can't do. He equips us and knows more than we do about our abilities. Knowing that should give us the confidence and patience we need to do His will and in doing so He will reward us. That's His promise. And sometimes, we need to understand that our reward may not be in riches or a new car, or even seen in this world. It may be a work in our hearts, that can only be experienced in the spirit. But we can have confidence that in all circumstances, God is beside us and keeping us.
