A brassiere rant

This may be TMI... My daughter and I both needed new undergarments this week. I needed a smaller one as I've been unintentionally losing some weight lately, I've gone down 1 whole size My daughter because she is growing and said hers was cutting into her creating lines around her chest. So, I look for the next size up for my daughter, unfortunately she's not with me to help... The trouble was everything that was the next size up also seemed to have a bigger cup size. She's not quite 13 and has only just started developing. Last time I got her 34A and even then the cups were a bit too big.. so I had to get her 36, but the A cups were definitely larger than the cups on the 34A. Well she doesn't need larger cups, just larger around the chest... I left without getting her anything because I need her there to try them on and see if it will fit or not. Next me. I thought I'd be easy, I've been the same size since I was 16.. the only thing that changes is the width of my chest when I gain or lose weight. So I got the next size down, came home and put it on, and guess what? It doesn't fit... the cups are too small! Why the heck do the cup sizes have to change with the width size?? Why can't the cup size be universal and only the width part of it change? Or maybe it's just where I'm choosing to buy them... perhaps I should look elsewhere, and unfortunately pay more for decent brassieres... course I don't want to do that for my daughter as her sizes will be changing regularly over the next couple of years. I'm thinking I might just get her a sports bra for now as that will allow for some growth.. But I need something good and supportive... ugh! Problem number 1738 that women face! LOL

This confusion associated with buying new ones is of course why we all hang on to bras that don't really fit or long past their natural lifespan.

Yes, I've been wearing this one that doesn't fit for a few months now. My only alternatives are ones where the wire is bent so it's uncomfortable, but I wear those ones when my regular needs to be washed. I really need a few more!

@boiboing I tried that once. I tried on the white in the store and liked it, so I got the white, a black, and a tan in the same size and style. When I got home the black was too small and the tan too big. Ugh!

@katsmeow1213 If you find one you like, buy as many as you can afford.

I have the same issue trying to find the right bras. For now I just use athletic sport bras that fit perfectly as I have trouble finding the right cup size. I know you can go to places and they can fit you for the right bra but I don't feel comfortable doing that. I hate bra shopping.

Same here, and I don't have the patience for it. I'll try on one and if it doesn't fit I give up. But I'm like that with any kind of clothes shopping.

Bra shopping is just one of those necessary evils we women face. Once I find one I like I buy several so I don't have to deal with that ordeal too often.

I tried that once, got 3 different colors of the same style.. but they all fit differently still.
