As many of you know, I have a full schedule this week, thanks to the wonderful Local History Week organised by our local library. I attended one valuable session yesterday, but today was overloaded, which found me attending two talks and a workshop. Amongst other things arising so far, I've done some valuable networking, meeting people who can help guide me through my editing and publication processes. But, an equally valuable thing arising is learning a new skill to assist me with organising my research. I've attended two sessions today on using Evernote as a way of organising my research information. If you don't know what this is, please don't ask me to explain, other than it is a valuable tool on the cloud that I'm already seeing the benefit of. I can see this becoming a new toy to occupy my research time. Do any of you have experience in using Evernote? If so, how have you found using it? If you have no idea what I'm talking about, why not check it out for yourself? Tonight I'm wishing I'd come across this resource a year ago. It may have saved me a lot of time. But, tonight, I'm going to let myself become lost in Evernote on The Cloud.

I prefer to store everything on my local computer, everything that is online can be hacked, stolen, or lost. I use a similar software that is called AllMyNotes.

I have my work strored in several places. However, I'm using Evernore to organise my research, which consists of other peoples work. It is already speeding up the process for me.

Anything that speeds the accessing of the research information is a bonus for me.

Each of us do our own research learning new things. I too have my own findings.

@valmnz There is a free software onyoutube that you can use to create your own movies. If you do not have it may be you can get one. VLC media player has features that could be put to good use. For example you can create images from your movie clips. Also you can use this media to convert online movies into offline and so on.

@allknowing It may seem strange to you, but when working with the kids at school I discovered I didn't enjoy video or movie making as much as they did. I think I'll stick with my words and leave you to make the movies

Yes that definitely helps. I think networking with people also helps in knowing new stuff. I have learned a lot of small skills. Like people interaction and also how to explain things to them. etc. As for evernote, I use it to store bank details.

We can struggle on alone, but it's quicker to learn from others.

It is definitely making a difference at how I've been organising things. I'm sure there are others just as good, but I need someone to show me how to use them!

No I had a chance to take a course on Evernote at my last genealogy conference but I didn't take it, now I wish I had.

I am yet to use evernote though I have it on my laptop. I need to explore it for myself. Network on and happy researching.

Thank you. I probably wouldn't have tried it if not for this free workshop.

It has an excellent tagging system, but I'm sure others do as well.

I think some of these things need others to help us know how to use them. It's easier than I thought once I'd been shown, but I definitely am still in the very beginning stages.

It's like most things, unless you're brave enough to explore you're posibly like me, needing someone to show you what to do.

I have enough on my plate right now. I don' t want to learn anything else, other than what I am focused on at the moment. One or two new things at a time work best for me.
