People want to separate you from your hard earned money.
There are a few different forms of Scams.
Your phone rings it is a call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft and they need to fix your computer and need to do it remotely, just hang up.
Then the next is when your computer locks up and you get a screen claiming your computer is infected or at risk and you need to call a "Microsoft" support number.
Turn off your computer, wait a few minutes and turn it on again.
Then scan your computer with your antivirus and make sure your Java, Adobe Flash and other software is updated.

hi @tampa_girl7 I got a bit of a scam I did not realize it til too late. I got what appeared to be a legitimate email for PayPal that I must now update my info having joined paypal so I did use the link then I got to thinking I have had that account for years whats this? so I sent the email
copy to scam at paypal okay ten days later I got a legitimate email from Paypal addressing me by name that someone in the Phoenix area had tried to access my acct so they were closing it til i could verify I was who I said i was which was an easy verification as they gave me a code that i was to repeat to the automatic phone call they would send me I did and the voice said congratulations your account is now clear . it seems when I hit that link the other time I unwittingly opened up my account but Paypal being very careful did not let those scammers into my account so they did not get my bank information which of course is what they wanted and my debit card info. so I
lucked out that time. so people watch on paypal emails as if they do not use your real name its a scam a nd they always start out congrats for joining paypal.Too they use your email addy they do not use your given name so know thats a scam. Also there will be some words often misspelled .

The Microsoft telephone scam was quite popular here for a while and I always used to amuse myself with that one. The callers invariably had no concept of how a computer works so I remained on the line and explained to them exactly why they were unable to see my computer, which usually ended up with them hanging up on me.
One guy actually rang me and claimed that he worked for Windows, which demonstrates how illiterate some of these morons actually were.

I got a few of those calls too. They really try to get you. I usually tell them they have reached a webcam company and I tell them to smile because they are being recorded on their computers webcam - then I usually hear a dial tone.

One untruth is to inform the person that their computer might become damaged if they don't act. 99.99% of computer problems are software related and since software can be reloaded the damage is in their head. It is really a backup problem that is saving all those important things you don't want to loose. Like the web address to myLot.com

@vickyrose I do the same and then I enter the number among the "blocked" numbers so I am no more annoyed.

free virus protetion does still not cost anything but upgrade means you now are going to pay for that upgate even though you tho ught it was free it is not.

Scammers and hackers are so good that I don“t trust anyone nowadays. I have had lately mails from paypal asking me if I want to answer a poll of sorts. If I do, I could win $10.
I only trust paypal when I get into my account by my own means. I prefer to spend my time earning real cents here and at a few sites that I know are legit.

Good for you for just deleting it and not spending any more time on it.

It's sad that these people spend all that time to scam others, too bad they don't use their knowledge for good instead.
