Computer Woes

I used to be able to figure out about anything with my computer, but it's not so easy anymore. Last month I took my computer to my fix-it guy as I had malware on it, he removed that and endeavored to install windows 10 for me after I gave the okay. Before he finished, he realized I'd need my bookkeeping program license code and disc which is long gone, so that's now on hold.
Somehow my internet security suite became invalid and I've been working on getting it going both on my computer and my husband's. I was going to get extra things done yesterday, but spent almost two hours calling support to get the activation code to work on hubby's computer. Finally, I let him finish it as I went to work.
I've been doing some cleaning and organizing today, while figuring out my own computer. It looks like I'll have to call support again, the third time this week for mine. It's finally downloaded, but won't accept my activation code. When I go to the main site it shows my subscription there. It's so confusing anymore, and I don't have time for this.

@MarshaMusselman I hate windows 8, I was so familiar with 7 and more so even with earlier versions. I feel lost even trying to find the programs.

@BelleStarr I wouldn't bother making the switch, but my computer guy says that after April they will charge around $115.00 for the new version. Also, updates for virus protection and such will be less and less eventually for the older versions. Eventually, we'll have to switch to keep up.
I just hope I can do my business work seamlessly with Windows10. I do like the way it looks on my husband's computer screen. It reminds me of icons on my tablet. Since I have a tablet too, maybe it won't be so hard to adjust when it happens. I've got things to find first before making that change though.

I didn't use to struggle with the earlier versions of windows, and I could about find anything on my computer with the windows programs, but I'm getting tired of having to call to straighten this out with each computer.

Windows 7. The main problem is I have a security suite for 2015 which is good until April of 2016. The site says my activation code I received this last spring won't work, but on their site they recognize how many days I have left, it's just not recognizing it on their product on my computer.

@MarshaMusselman I would check whether the site allows you to have the activation code resent to your email address.
Assuming that your Windows 7 is genuine, it is easy to upgrade to Windows 10. Microsoft offer a free upgrade. If the upgrade has not been downloaded to your computer, you can download the Media Creation Tool from their website and run it manually.

@Asylum I have someone that will help me with windows ten when I'm ready. I need to wait until I locate the other program for doing my business and see if they can work with me on that when ready, otherwise, I'll need to buy a newer version which I should do anyway. I'll probably wait until after taxes are done so if it takes a bit to get it straightened out, it won't cause me any problems running my business.

@Rohvannyn There are pros and cons with windows 10, but the main thing is that it is free until April of next year when it will be a bit over one hundred dollars. Eventually, there won't be as many updates on the older programs to protect us from the viruses and such. I've heard that once we understand it more we'll love it, but I'll have to wait until I have it to share about that.

Same with us. We still use Windows 7 at our office, and that's what we use at our home too. We use it at home because Windows 10 is too troublesome.

I have a Mac, so no prob, but I must say here how much I admire PC users. You have to know a ton more than I do. But that's not to say I don't run into problems with my Mac now and then, and so I, too, have a guru for those times. However, he's thousands of miles away, so there's that. We first discuss my computer issues over the phone, or over the internet if that connection is still working. If that doesn't work, I've had to ship the laptop to him and hunker down for the inevitable tech withdrawals while he has it.
Doncha just love technology? I try to remember what it was like before the personal computers and cellphones came onto the scene. I don't know now if I'd be able to figure out how to get along without them if I had to.

When my computer is bad its very very bad and when it works I love it. I am not technical at all. When i used a PC at least I could figure it out - most of the time. My kids who all use Apple products bought us a Mac. It is a beautiful machine unless I try to do something different. My business accounts are on it and you would think changing the size of type would be easy. But its not, I will ask my son the next time he visits to fix the size of type on my accounts. Frustrating...sigh. I hope your behaves properly soon!

@sallypup My mac lets me text them and they respond and tell me what to do to fix whatever Is bothering me. If we can't fix it that way one of them has to come home and help me.

Glad you have someone who can help you. I get very out of sorts when I have computing problems. It has become such a part of my entertainment and daily schedule. I think too that when Microsoft introduces a new Windows you have to have that on your PC or other things you try to do may not work right for you. If you see what I mean.

I have purchased Avast and Malware Bytes for two years in a row. Avast will work really well for 6 or so months but then all of a sudden it will need an update and when I update it, the program says I only have the "free" edition. I called tech support got it figured out and it worked again but it has done it two years in a row and I think I will avoid Avast when it runs out again. Of course since my Dell broke I am using my chromebook and I don't have a need for avast or malwarebytes.
Good luck at getting yours straightened out.
