Survived My Surgery, Now the Fun Starts

Yesterday I had surgery to correct a double hernia (lap inguinal hernia). Believe it or not, it was my first time ever being in a hospital for a medical procedure of any kind! The entire procedure was supposed to take 6 hours (from check-in to checkout), but it ended up being closer to 10 hours because they couldn't release me until I urinated (I had a catheter inserted during surgery). Unfortunately, I just didn't have any urine in my bladder after the surgery, so I had to lay there for hours until such time as I could go to the bathroom! But, eventually, I peed, and finally got to go home! So, here I sit at home today, recovering from the operation. Now the fun begins. From dealing with the pain and soreness of the surgical area, to the extreme burning sensation when I go to the bathroom, to the nauseaness and grogginess of the hydrocodone pills I have to take for the pain, I am now on my way to recovery! I'm just happy I don't have to go back to work for a while, so I can fully rest and recuperate! Wish me luck!

Good that you have such a good doctor as the people in the hospital have told you, it always mades you feel better.

Not all the surgeons use catheters here either, but this particular surgeon does it with all his patients. Everyone in the hospital says he is one of the best.

Thanks! I'm going to milk this recovery for as long as I can. I need the break from work! lol

@Marilynda1225 The key word for me is "try." I'm a workaholic, so I don't know how long I can sit at home and do nothing while I am recovering! I may ask my boss to send some work home to me, just so I can have something to do!

It must have been quite a surprise when you weren't released when you thought you should be. Sorry that must be painful for you right now. How long do they say until you will be able to go back to work? Yes, it is probably nice to have a break from work.

Nothing wrong with taking more time off and you may need it before going back to all the stress work can cause. Hope your feeling okay today and not in to much pain.

@Marcyaz Thank you! So far, so good. I think my pain meds were starting to cause me to be nauseated and dizzy, so I stopped taking them this morning to see for sure. Although I was worried about my pain discomfort, it hasn't been too bad yet. But I have my meds sitting right next to me in case it does start to hurt!

The doctor said I could be back to work in about a week if I wanted to, but I told him I wanted two weeks at a minimum, three if possible! He said he could work with me on that! It gives me a much-needed break from all the stress at work! lol

No, it was not fun at all, and mine was considered a minor surgery. I would hate to know what people who go through major surgeries must deal with.

Thank you! I'm already up on my feet walking around, but definitely not trying to overdo it! I'm kind of a prisoner in my home, because I live on the third floor and I can't climb stairs right now! lol

I didn't like the way I was feeling yesterday while on the pain meds. I'm going to try and see how long I can go today without taking any of the pain meds. I would rather deal with a little bit of pain than to feel tired, groggy and nauseated due to the meds.
