This will remind us that our capacity for happiness is determined by our ability to give and express love. There are 12 ways by which we can offer the most precious gifts to those we care about .
1. The gift of time.
2. The gift of a good example.
3. The gift of acceptance.
4. The gift of seeing the best in
people.
5. The gift of privacy.
6. The gift of self-esteem.
7. The gift of giving up a bad habit.
8. The gift of self-disclosure.
9. The gift of helping someone
learn something new.
10. The gift of really listening.
11. The gift of fun.
12. The gift of letting others give
to you.

I'm a fan of the gift of experiences, personally.
The kids get a few token presents at birthdays, but their big present is an outing to a place like the zoo. The last time we went (for the kindergartner's birthday in March) we got admissions that included the stingray tank, camel rides, and a tour of the zoo on their train. We fed stingrays and giraffes and ended up only getting around to about half of the zoo.
The toddler's birthday is coming up in January... we're still not quite sure what she's going to choose, but she seems really interested in going to an aquarium.

@1creekgirl My kindergartner still talks about the first trip we took to the zoo for her second birthday.

I totally agree that events and experiences are remembered much longer than most purchased gifts.

All are good but I especially like #12. I am a giver but find it hard to accept someone else doing something nice for me.

This is the basis and the more we can give of these things the more we receive back. We have to be open to it and give back as well.
