Can You Believe This?

I went online this morning about 8:30a. to pay a credit card bill. I went to the usual site and page that I always go to. It told me I needed to identify myself. Okay. So I went through the steps. It was going to send me a security code.so I could register my device so I could pay my bill this way the next time. I followed the steps to get this code. It was supposed to come In an email. Nothing. I went several minutes. Nothing. So I did it again. Nothing. I waited even longer tis time. Nothing again. Getting frustrated but being too stubborn to give up I tried one more time. Yep. Nothing. Waited and waited some more. Finally I called in to customer care. The rep said she could pull all my registration info and I could sign up again. Okay. She does that and I am directed to just follow the instructions.. I say goodbye. So I sign up again. And where it tells me I can register my device it won't let me click on it. So, I call the company again and have her stay on the line while I go through the entire thing again. Okay, this time it goes to a completely different page and lets me click on the appropriate spot this time. So, I am able to re-register and register my device. Cool. I pay my bill and I go on with my day . Do some Mylotting , then have a conference call, deal with the PSR and then dinner and Mylotting again. So about 6:40p. I start getting the emails from the credit card company that I had not gotten at 8:30a. on this morning. The security code, then another one and the third one. Yes, and I got all three of them. Can you believe it? Ten hours later.

This does happen, albeit quite rarely. Personally I would have logged into my ISP and manually checked the incoming emails to ensure that they had not been delayed in the inbox. The last time that I encountered delays was with my Microsoft account, which depended on receiving a text message with a code.

@celticeagle If you log into your account with your ISP there should be a link to directly access your emails.

Yes, I know it does but rather silly. I have no idea how to do the checking of emails coming in. I don't do text message.

@Asylum ...And, you see I know not a thing of what you speak about. Log into what account? What does my ISP have to do with any of this? Directly access my emails? I go to Yahoo to do that. I don't know what you are talking about.

We get those security codes in our mobile and it is a routine here. So far, so good.

@allknowing ....Several. We have a landline that is on our cable program. If I got a cell I would want a nice one and they are too expensive. I haven't seen a program I can afford yet. I had a cell phone for three months one time several years back now the horrible experience I had with doesn't make me want to jump and go get one again.

@celticeagle You must be special not to have a mobile. Any reason?

Sorry you had to go thru all that i would be going nuts. But really 10 hours just to send you a code? That's a bit much if you ask me. Usually it should only take 10 mins or less to send you an email. Glad you made the right decision and called customer care so you could get thru it the quicker way.

Me too! And then the first rep should have stayed with me when she could tell I was nervous and unsure. Instead she left me at the first opportunity.

What probably happened was that the gateway was clogged. The one between the website and their ISP. It is rare, but it's like a clog. When it refreshed itself, hours later, everything in the clog got sent out. It probably means the company needs more bandwidth or server space. But I don't think they would want that sort of advice.

@BethieAnnie ...This makes sense to me but makes me wonder if I have missed other things that the 'clog' didn't sent out. Were there other clogs I am wondering.

It happened that I had a couple of emails delayed, I think to remember that both were order confirmations. I was so upset not to receive them.

Yeah, I think I take them for granted but can see where NOT getting them could cause some problems.

I thought maybe you got into a different site by mistake. Do you know how to differentiate between the two? For me, the address bar will usually be either in red, or it may not even have the actual name of the site there where it usually is. Maybe the online portion of the site was undergoing some updating that the customer service person didn't know about? Recently, I had a major issue getting my registration/activation code to work with my security suite. I have three quarters of a year left on it, but if kept declining the code I was given by customer service. I ended up calling them over three times too, but the first two was to get my husband's computer working with the same security company. Once his was taken care of I then had problems with mine. They told me to try again in a few hours as the system was getting updated. It took two days and finally it showed up on my machine almost by itself. I'm glad I didn't keep wasting my time on it. Also, I don't always get the emails sent out automatically either.

No, I was on the right site. I go there every month. I guess the emails were just delayed for some reasons for 10 hours. It may have been going through some updates. Sorry to hear of your issues.

dthats is what happened to me about replacing my debit card I had to have this code so looked in my email redid the thing no code five times I did this and finally called the 800 number so this morning I looked and I have ave five security codes thats just nuts. I got my debit card mess straightened out by talking to a live person. I hate it when I cannot get something done on the computer as usually I can but not that time.

Wow, that's something. Usually I get them right away, or within a few minutes. I can't remember a time when it's taken that long. Glad you were still able to get everything done and paid.

It sounds like they sent it when they said they did. I have had emails bunch up like that. Sometimes when I clear my cache, it wipes out the cookies on my computer and I have to get the codes again. I'd rather be safe than sorry, but it is a pain.

I think that must have been what happened. I continued to get more too. The codes expire. I won't use any of them. Got it all taken care of but it was a pain.
