The tendency of a bumble bee is to get inside a flower. It is therefore often seen near flowers where it has the scope for such activity. It is said that they also try to get into our ears and so if one spots a bumble bee it is necessary that the ears are covered or the bee is driven away. Have you heard the buzz of a bumble bee?

I've never come across the idea that a bee might want to enter a person's ear! There's absolutely no truth in that. We have lots of bumble bees of different species here and when it isn't pouring with rain (a it is now) they are still out and about visiting the last flowers to fatten up for winter.

They do that. There have been instances here. I always cover my ears if I spot one.

Yes buble bees are needed to pollen the flowers. Just stay clear of them so they will not sting you.

I've seen plenty in my garden. They sometimes come inside the house, but although we shoo them out we don't consider them as dangerous as honey bees.

No harm in keeping them away from our ears.

I have never had a bumble bee try to get in my ears, but they do seem quite haphazard in their flying patterns at times.

I suggest that you cover your ears rather than being confident that they will never enter there

That is true bees love our ears and has been passed down through years of evolution where now our ears create their very own bee'z wax. A little joke.

we hear them much less these days as bees seem to be vanishing in many areas which could have dire consequences

I wonder if the bumble bee actually collects nectar. Bees that collect nectar are differnt. I have never seen a bee hive of bumble bees.
