Wait! It's not Thanksgiving yet!

I was on my way to work last night when I noticed three different houses that already have their decorations up. Not just the decor up but also on. One house had only a string of lights above their door, as far as I know that's all they do anyway. In any case, it's just a bit out of hand, isn't it? I feel as if Corporate America is to blame. Pushing people to buy Christmas Candy, cards ornaments and lights already. What happened to the tradition of stuffing oneself on Thanskgiving and then putting the decor up that same night or the next day? That is the more practical thing to do. I posted about this on my facebook page and one person said that they love seeing the stuff up early. Celebrating The Birth of Christ. Now I can understand celebrating but to me the decor has nothing to do with it. I could point out that our Christmas Tree is actually a pagan tradition, but I won't. Decor is but a materialistic thing. What Say You?

People shop early all year long, as it is their way of "budgeting" their presents in. In the really old days people opened a Christmas Club account and put money aside and then shopped at the appropriate time. When my kids were little I refused to put the tree up until Dec. 15 as it was just too much. Now I try to make at least some of my decor practical. Lots of red, then it can stay up until Valentine's. Snowmen as they are appropriate until Spring if I get lazy.

I've a cousin who decorates for almost every holiday. They keep a small tree in their livingroom all year round, but decorate it accordingly.

November 26th. Tradition here is SUPPOSED to be waiting until that day or AFTER.

@valmnz I'm not sure if I will cook this year or not. If I do cook it will have to be after I wake up which is around five PM. I guess I'll make a lighter meal, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, potato salad and green bean casserole. I better not forget the dressing. Last year I bought an already premade meal from work, we had to cook the turkey but all the fixings were fixed.

@ScribbledAdNauseum thanks, I knew it was near the end of the month, but as we don't have it here I wasn't sure.

Some of our radio stations are already playing Christmas music! There is such a thing as too early. I can understand the stores getting things out early. Some people like buying stuff early to have it done with. But I know I get sick of Christmas music pretty darn quick. It's the same songs over and over again. There's no reason to start playing it already.

I think that the stuff being out in stores is imposing on people. I haven't checked the radio stations here but I've heard that it's already playing as well. Good thing I have my amazon music app so I can listen to what I want.

Corporate America is to blame! Hell, Christmas stuff has been in all the stores since before Halloween! Thanksgiving?!. All anybody seems to know about Thanksgiving is Black Friday is the day after and some stores even open on T'day! "Tis the season to be pushy and knock your fellow man out of your way!" I have a 6-inch fiber optic tree I set out about the week before Christmas. Looks beautiful to me! I won't put up anything Xmas-y, tree or otherwise, until at least December.

It is really sad beause obviously enough people will buy the stuff early. Corporate America + 1 , Common Sense - 0

If I was in my own place Christmas decorations would already be up as many of my friends have theirs up. It is not because of coperate America but in honor of the season we are entering in which should not be limited to a few weeks right after Thanksgiving.

I think it is influenced by Corporate America. Why? When I was a little girl we did not put the decor up until AFTER Thanksgiving. Even a few years ago it was still AFTER Thanksgiving that things were put out. Now stores have Candy, Decor, and Holiday Gifts already out. Now the Holiday Gifts I can understand, but the decor is a bit too much. In my opinion it's not the decor that should be celebrated but the Birth of Christ.

@Elizaby I reread what you wrote prior and realize how I misconstrued...

@ScribbledAdNauseum I wasn't referring to the decorations but the true meaning of the season celebrating Christ even though I would love to make the house festive for more than a month in honor of Him.
