I hate commas! The rules seem to have changed about commas in the English language. They are easy to use, but just bothersome. How can one person make some many grammatical errors based on commas? I think they are just extra keystrokes in a descriptive sentence, when you are trying to separate description, or when you need an and in between those descriptions, which I think is what I covered before that comma, and even for dramatic effect. There are so many other uses as well, but I just wanted to rant about those. Which grammatical error is your peeve, either reading the error or writing it?

@Rationalwriter The capital words are definitely attention grabbers. I didn't realize how much until I looked at COMMAS!!!!. It's almost like there is nothing else on the page. I think capitalization can replace bold letters.

If you were a legal writer, you would probably have learned NEVER to use commas. That is one reason why legal documents are so damned hard to read, in my opinion.
The rules about commas are quite complex and not only do most people use them far too much but different publishers have different 'house styles' about using them!
My own opinion is that, if a passage doesn't need a comma for it to make sense or if it gives the wrong clues to someone reading it aloud, then that comma should be omitted.

Sometimes I will talk out loud before I write something down and that makes it even more confusing because when you talk you can pause, but it doesn't necessarily mean a comma should go there. After I write, I will read something and that gives a little clarity if you read exactly what you write.
