Flu Without Fever

Waking up with swollen tonsils or difficulty swallowing is one of my body's early warning signs.
It means I'm coming down with a cold, so what I usually do is take vitamin c and paracetamol or cold medicine for two, three days so it doesn't get worse.
I did this a few days ago, but it seems I have the flu this time and it's somewhat different from the flu I've had before.
My head is not aching, but it feels heavy. My mucus comes and goes because this time, my nose is not stuffy nor runny. I think I sneezed once a day.
My tonsils are no longer swollen, but because my cough is dry this time, a coughing fit can end with a raw throat and aching back muscles. My joints ache, too, so I feel really sluggish.
It's hard to speak. I have to try harder to be heard when calling someone who's in another room or answering the landline.
Yet even with all these symptoms, I still don't have a fever. That's always been a quirk of mine. I seldom get fevers.
Anyway, I've switched from a cold to cough medicine yesterday. If things don't improve, I'll see my doctor on Saturday.
What's your body's early warning signs? Do you also have medical quirks?
It's not always easy to determine if you have a cold or the flu, but knowing the difference helps treatment work quicker at ending your symptoms.

@Jessicalynnt i wonder if it's the same as berocca. it's pricey but some swear it's really effective after a night of drinking and partying.

@hereandthere Whenever I left the house, my mother's parting words were always 'have you got a hanky?' I can't go anywhere without one.

I always drink medicine so my simple colds will not turn to serious cough or flu. Usually I have weak immune system when I get flu

oh, yes, i remember that, the kidney stone?
but i don't feel cold, no chills and don't have fever. i will probably need help with loosening the cold and cough to make it easier to expel.

I think you will be having a flu because you have body aches . If they are in the joints then it's a flu . Get well soon . Drink lots of water , my friend /

I have Lupus, so with any cold I get the aches, and sometimes a fever. I do know there are a few flu like viruses going around. They don't seem to have named them yet, but they last longer than a cold.

@bethieannie yeah, i know i need something to loosen all this mucus despite all the liquid i'm drinking and the cough and cold medicine. i have a feeling i'll be prescribed antibiotics.

@hereandthere my flu has moved into my lungs. If you are draining like that then it could turn into bronchitis, which does call for antibiotics.
