Roasted Halloween Pumpkins

One of my favorite activities is finding free food. Halloween pumpkins fit the bill. A few years ago I began knocking on my neighbor's doors asking them for their pumpkins before the first heavy frost set in. Only one ever refused, the first year. Of coarse they asked me why I wanted them. I explained that I would roast them, turn the flesh to puree and freeze the puree for food during the winter months. In exchange, my neighbor's could choose to receive a pumpkin bread or pie for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Now my neighbors deliver their pumpkins to my door. Win-win!

What a great idea! And it certainly is a win-win situation. Well done for creative thinking.

I make a mess of breads and pies for the local food kitchen to distribute for Thanksgiving. My way of giving back.
