We had a difference of 6 years and 9 months between us. He was 30 and I was 23 plus a few months.
Ours was a proposed marriage where knowing one's age was not top priority.
How has it been with you.?
They say "Better an old man's darling than a young man's slave."
Do you agree with this?
Clint Eastwood & Dina Ruiz-Eastwood - his latest - have a difference of 35 years between them.

Age doesn't seem to matter anymore. Older men are with young women and now older women are with younger men

Just because these odd situations are commonly seen that does not guarantee that such marriages last.

My wife and I are the same age. I agree that age should not be a barrier between a man and a woman that love each other.

There must be a good reason why this age difference of 5 to 7 years is considered normal. But in your case your marriage seems to be working fine.

It doesn't matter the age difference between the spouses as long as they are happy.

A proper age difference - as from research done - makes it easy for couples to adjust to each other

There is as they say ideal age difference which is between 6 and 7. There must be some research done behind it.

@sofssu As I have commented elsewhere it is not without reason a standard age difference is recommended. Good for you that your marriage has worked.

There were 14 years between my first wife and I. She was 35 and I was 21 when we began dating.
We had our daughter when I was 23 and she was just shy of 37. We were together for just over 7 years.
Our marriage didn't last, but once in a while, I do dream about what was, @allknowing .
There were 7 years difference between my second wife and I.
We were married for two months.
While dating, I had a lot in common with both women. After our marriage, though, I was quickly apprised of the fact that we actually did not enjoy the same activities, nor did we think/feel the same about many subjects we had discussed and agreed upon before we were married.
I know my opinions, likes and dislikes are still the same, to a large extent, now as they were then. I don't know why theirs should have suddenly changed.
I am not willing to try for a third marriage.

One does not have to have common likes all over the place for a marriage to sustain. They say one has to search for peace in a storm. It is hard work to get there.

There are 12 years between my wife and me,and nine between my mum and dad. Both marriages have been successful. My sister, my wife's sister, and my wife's parents all married someone around the same age, and all three of those marriages failed. Of course, this could just be a coincidence, but it does show that marrying someone quite a bit older is no handicap.

I do not consider a 12 year gap being abnormal. but a difference in age where the man is almost the age of the girl's father. Such marriages do not last but when they do then they are exceptions.
There are reasons why a gap of around 7 years is considered healthy.

Age difference is important for couples. I think no more than 10 years old is acceptable. As a big age difference will lead to the generation gap. And they have a big different physical situation. This is why I don't like my husband will be older than me a lot. As a matter of fact, he is older than me about 4 years.
