What Is an "I Need a Break" Drawer?

When a friend told me about this, I was intrigued. It sounded kind of weird but I listened to the idea and decided to try it. Here's what you do: Choose a drawer in your house (or you could us a basket or plastic container of some kind) and designate it to quick, easy projects. She mentioned that she puts in her drawer, articles she didn't have time to read that she tore out of a magazine. Thank you cards she needed to write. or any small task that she could accomplish in just a few minutes while she enjoyed a cup of tea or coffee. For me, I was thinking about mending things that I had put off, because I couldn't find a needle and thread. I purchased some needles and several spools of thread and put them in a little zippered bag, with some buttons and a thimble. Put the bag in the drawer that I had emptied and now I know exactly where they are. I also went to the Dollar Tree and bought some blank notes and Get-Well cards and a few "Thinking of You" cards. Then, I went to the Post Office and got some stamps and put them in the drawer. She explained that when her energy level bottoms out and she just needs to take a break, she goes to the drawer and gets some mini-project and works on that. It completely changes her mood and she feels revitalized by completing a task that has needed done, no matter how small it is. I'm just working on what to put in the drawer and making some progress on that. So, this winter, I will have some things lined up to complete if I start feeling bored or otherwise at a low ebb. I will let you know how it goes. What do you think of the idea?

What a great idea. I'll have to try it. Except, all my drawers are already overflowing!

Find a little basket to use and keep it under the bed.

@MALUSE You must be a very organized person, which is GOOD thing. I just have always had a problem with finding a needle when I need it, or stamps, so this idea is a good one for me.

I think the idea is a good one if the drawer doesn't start to become a place to dump junk

I think it is a great idea. On the other hand I have piles on the couch, the coffee table, the bedside table, the desk. They are full of things I am going to read or deal with in some way. So, I need to change my approach to these neglected mini projects.
