Long beans are slowly coming up

long beans at solitaire

I tried my hand at growing vegetables after a long long time. I got a good crop of tomatoes and now I see long beans. I got to cook them once and more are showing up. I am now encouraged. I have just planted brijnal seedlings which I got from sowing seeds. Hope to see results in a few months. Not everything was a success. The ladyfingers were a mess and I think the ridge gourd also may not show up. What are you growing just now?

so with the help of the big G, the long beans in your picture would be sitaw, the lady fingers okra, the ridge gourd patola, and the brijnal would be eggplant. (i like searching what i read here) my mother planted ampalaya (bitter ground) for the first time this year and we were able to harvest some.

I have the same reply as @MALUSE. The temperature goes down below zero during the night. We grow nothing in this season.

But you do have a flourishing garden when the time is right.I have replied to the statement made@MALUSE " Is it possible that you've forgotten that myLot is an international site? " There are other places where gardening goes on during this time.

@allknowing I know that there are people all around the world here, I only thought to our northern countries, where now the soil is frozen.

wow! 're those beans 'pposed to grow that long 'fore ya pick 'em? i wish ya the best'f luck with yer gardenin'. in these parts, i'm jest tryin' to keep my herbs 'live, lol. i so dislike these cold 'n shortened days 'n long fer the warmth 'n new life 'f spring already.

I know those in cold countries have that problem not being able to grow ,much but when you are ready I must say your gardens flourish much better than what we see here.

@crazyhorseladycx I am aware of your short seasons but have seen many here who talk about their success with whatever grows at your end much better than what I can produce.

@allknowing do ya reckon that's coz we've a shorter period 'f time 'n thus put more effort into such? i dunno, i miss the days 'f a garden coverin' 1/2'n acre 't least. hopefully i'll be able to get back to such one day 'n the rains'll cooperate with such'a venture, eh?

Sadly there's not a lot to grow this time of year but I have some potatoes in the green house. I don't know if they'll do well or not.

Different countries have different growing patterns. Here too we have peak and lean seasons. I have never grown potatoes but they do well in cooler climates here in India.

@marlina Our summer potatoes were brilliant. I don't have high hopes for the winter ones.

Aww that stinks that those two haven't grown properly, but you know that is how you learn best what those plants truly require! Nothing like hands-on learning.

@buttheadface932 The ridge gourd was a mess too. It has all to do with the staggering rains. They stopped in between and these are vegetables that are normally grow in in the rainy season.

I think you can try sweet potato later on. Many of us here like to eat sweet potato leaves, and the Japanese/Vietnam sweet potatoes produce very nice tasting leaves.

@BelleStarr As long as you get your vegetables it does not matter where you grow them.

@allknowing We get a hard freeze and plenty of snow, I would have to grow it indoors.

So far so good. I did have some ants which I got rid of by spraying an ants repellent.
