Doctor Diagnosed Without Even Doing Tests

My mother has been bleeding a lot today and has been having pain when she passes urine. She has had urgency to urinate too but the doctor stated it is a urine infection without even testing her urine. Her urine is red and is full of clots and yet the doctor just gave antibiotics!
My mother had to force them to send off a urine sample to the lab to get tested. What is happening to our health care system. It does not take a genius to work out that it is always best to test urine for anything more sinister.
By the way is it normal to have urine infection and bleed a lot?

Sorry to hear about your mum, I'm hoping she ok. No I don't think it's ok a urine infection a lot let alone bleeding.
I hope it's all sort out and she is ok.

@kevin1877uk I expect better in the UK. Where are all our taxes going. I just really pray that it is just a urine infection and nothing serious. I am worried :(

I wouldn't have thought it normal ... the least the dr could have done was get it checked straight away. I hope she is ok .

no it certainly is not normal and she should get a different doctor as one should not bleed like that .I have had utis but never bled I just know that is not normal. would find a urologist and have him care for your mom.

Please take your mom to a different doctor and get the problem diagnosed as soon as possible!! I wish her all the best!!
As to your question, Bleeding may occur because of many reasons!! I think it is known as Hematuria!!
Please consult a different doctors as the worst case scenarios for blood in urine may include Kidney stones too!! I hope this won't be the case, but please don't take any chance!!

Even here in the USA UTIs (Urinary tract infection) is often the diagnosis with or without being tested especially in the older population. From what you stated it is not going to hurt to start her on meds for this condition, but I would get her check out more thoroughly as with the sign of visible blood there could be something more happening.
