potato soup. And, you know what? I taught her. She has become a great cook. Feels good now that I have given that up that she has taken the ball and is running with it so well. I taught her the correct ingredient to give it that zing. I taught her how to seer that roast before you put in the oven to make it succulent and juicy. And what spice to use to make it so very tasty. I also taught her the trick to making cake extra moist and delicious. My grandma and mom taught me. I feel really proud of this.
Well, I had a second helping of that soup. Tell me one thing that you feel good about teaching your children.

Lucky for her. Some men still expect women to do all of that.

@celticeagle Her husband loves to cook and she always did say she would find one who did.

Not a mother so can't answer the question. It must feel good to pass the baton down though.

Sure does. I was lucky to have such grams and mom. They were great cooks and great women.

@celticeagle My mother could bake but cooking was not her thing. Growing up we knew that supper was ready when the alarm went off. My grandmother could cook though, oh boy could she ever. Now, however,
she doesn't cook very tasty meals. I don't tell her this, and she doesn't cook very often as is. I'm relegated to the cooking now.
One recipe I learned was from my great grandmother, my grandfather's mother. My grandmother (my grandfather's wife) used to make this often around this time of year. It is potatoes in roux, very
delicious.

I taught my girls how to cook, sew and knitt. But what makes me more proud is what my husband taught them. He taught them how to be responsible.

That is good to hear. Good cooks are very important in a family. LOL

Not a mother either, but I can tell you it feels good to have a parent enthuse about my cooking, especially something that they taught me. I make a mean spinach phyllo loaf, and I remember once I made some as a teenager (rather many moons ago) and my dad said "that tastes like something from a restaurant!"

I remember my grams always depended on my uncle and he was so good to her. He was about the last guy person in the family until my grandson. The rest were just sperm donars.
