How did I choose my charity.

When I was young, I had my pet charity that had to do with helping people who had problems such as the ones I did but did not have the support that I always had.
So, in a sense, it was a selfish reason.
Now for over 15 years I have helped another charity and it also deals with the experiences I have had in life.
One of my grandsons had brain cancer and died after the longest 9 months anyone could ever live.
He had surgery, chemo and radiotherapy. None of that saved him. But during all that time he knew that he was loved and he could grow up a whole life time during whose terrible months.
I then saw that many children were, so to say, dumped by their familes as they were not going to live. They were at hospitals, undergoing all those treatments, yet noone visited them or played with them. Many of them did not have a single toy.
When our Tomas died, we gathered all his toys and took them to the hospital for the children with cancer. We now gather toys and books every Christmas from our friends and wrap them as presents.
And I give as much money a I can spare to help them
Do you have a special charity? Why did you choose it?

There are many people that need help. I know that I am one of the fortunate ones. But when I have to choose, I pick the ones who are closest to my heart.

I remember that I was a memnber of the old mylot when we had the big earthquake in Feb, 2010. Many of my friends asked me where they could send their help and I told them to send it to Haiti. WE can help ourselves, even when something catastrophic occurs. But Haiti is a place where poverty is so great that it must be helped allthe time.
