Strange dream…

I had it again last night. Dreams with the same theme had happened to me in the past. They involved my first boyfriend. Very strange… especially that I have no idea what could have triggered them. I have not thought or talked about him. I have not seen or heard from him for years. And we have basically moved on and completely gone our separate ways for most of our lives. He’s my childhood best friend’s brother. Basically I had a childhood crush on him and by the time we’re in high school we went out together. Things weren’t meant to be and we went our separate ways. I saw him again at my best friend’s wedding and we both were married to different people then. Many years later, I accidentally bumped into him and we caught up with each other a bit over lunch. He told me that he’s divorced and I actually had known about his marital problems from his sister or my best friend. After the lunch, he did try to contact me again a few times but I was not too interested. I’ve never seen him again since and he did try to get to me through his sister. His sister is still my best friend, but we have been long distance best friends for many years. We’re probably only in contact once or twice a year as we live in different parts of the world. They kept asking me to go to Facebook to keep in touch and what not, but I’m very determined to never be involved with Facebook. Anyway, I don’t understand why out of the blue I’d dream about him. In the dream, we were very young just like when we went out together some 35+ years ago. Strange indeed...

It seems strange to me but as Koalemos says, it's always in your subconscious. Sometimes I have dreams on the one theme for a week or two. Sometimes I can work out what triggers them; other times I can't.

Most dreams I could not even remember what they were as soon as I woke up... But the ones that I did remember (like this one) felt so 'real' for some reasons, and felt like there must be more to it only I didn't know what that could be...

@sishy7 The ones we really don't remember are of no significance. It is the ones that stay vivid or repeat themselves that should be figured out.

@nanette64 I have a recurring one where the car I'm driving starts rolling backwards and I can't stop it. I've taken this to mean that, at that particular time in my life, I don't feel in control of things. Not sure if I'm right or not but it makes sense to me.

Something has happened to him @sishy7 . You may want to get ahold of him if you can.

The knowledge of him is always there in your subconscious, so whether you think about while awake or not your mind retains the information and can easily draw on it for dreams.

@sishy7 On a personal note, I will not try finding out either, if there was someone whom I was associated with, once.

@sishy7 The vividity of the dream could be he is trying to reach out to you because it is important to him to do so.

I had some odd ones too, something about getting stranded and having no keys to the truck so I used a twig as a key? Kept running out of gas, and having to find some, spent the whole dream trying to get home

Oh, those kinds of dreams feel more like a nightmare to me. I wrote a bubble about one when I got very lost and felt so helpless...

Perhaps you can search for news of him. It may be an omen or you have seen someone who looks like him and that triggers a memory. I think when you meet up with him, both of you will be astounded at the appearance of each other.

I kinda prefer to keep being on our separate ways as it has been for many years now...

I don't think it's strange at all. You must have thought about him for something. Maybe talking to your friend triggered this somehow. Nothing wrong with looking back when life was better. It probably made you feel good because I would have to assume that those were good times for you.

@sishy7 Then it had to be subconscious. Maybe when you started to fall asleep, it came out that way.

yeah, if I were talking or even thinking about my friend, I'd assume that would be what triggered the dream... but what puzzled me was I wasn't even doing that...

That's what I was thinking too actually. I remember someone said to me to give a person whom I haven't been in contact with for a while a call if I suddenly think about him/her.

This must be something that was latent in your mind. The dream was an outcome.

They say, you dream of ex, because they thought intensely about you. Dream analyses say, you dream of a past relationship it's cos something in your current relationship that reminded you of that particular relationship.

Oh, but we don't necessarily know what that something is, do we? If I were reminded of the past relationship somehow, I can understand why I would be dreaming of him. Since it feels more like something out of the blue to me, perhaps the first reason you mentioned could be true about how he might be thinking about me...

@sishy7 Our subconscious is sly, it's good at hiding things. To the extent when it first surfaces, our instinct is, "that's not right", then after pondering on it for many hours, you begin to see something very different.
