Multiple eMail Addresses

Do you use all of them equally actively?

@sishy7 I check them every day, you never know, I would not like to lose an important mail.

@LadyDuck Wow, I do that with my 4 and I ask myself "why do I have to have so many different email addresses???" sometimes...

@sishy7 I still have them. That reminds me. I must go see if there is any mail for me in those inactive ones that I hardly use.

Do you keep even the inactive ones now?

@sishy7 No, they are not fake or ghost emails. My ISP provides a sub domain for my account, which creates the part of my email address to the right of the @ sign. I also have the option to create as many mailboxes as I wish. If I create a mailbox entitled Barry then I will have Barry@mydomainname.com I have configured Microsoft Outlook to scan the sub domain for any incoming mail, which will download anything with @mydomain.com as the prefix. This allows me to receive emails sent to any address that includes mysubdomain.com but unless I have created a mailbox I cannot send by such addresses because the outgoing route does not exist.

I can understand the 2 main and even the outlook one. But you lost me with the many one way addresses... Are they the same as what I heard others refer to as fake or ghost email addresses?

@Asylum @sishy7 This is what I was calling an alias email address. I use my Hotmail the same way, except I allow them to send or receive.

@sishy7 I know Yahoo Mail still keeps the mails, but Hotmail or it's called Live Mail now just deactivates and deletes all the emails after inactivity for a period of time (I forgot how long it is).

They should work like some of bank accounts when they are closed automatically if there are no activities for a certain period of time...

@kaka135 It used to be 30 days of inactivity, but I don't know if that is still correct or not. My main account is through Hotmail. (It changed to Live several years ago and has changed again to Outlook. My old account using Hotmail is still active and accepted in different places.)

Are you keeping the other 2 just in case you'll need them someday or are you going to delete them?

@sishy7 one is set to paypal which I haven't figured out how to change, and one is super old, just kept it on principle

Oh, are those 5 different email addresses then? Or are they 5 different email folders within one email address?

@sishy7 Actually I am keeping record of all the passwords, otherwise I would forget for sure.

Wow, that's a lot of unused ones... I wouldn't be able to remember all the different usernames/passwords to the inactive ones... Unless they're all the same...

@sishy7 Yes, I write them down and if I need to refer to them I will. But, they never closed on me for being inactive (I don't log into them)

That's efficient. But sometimes it's good to have more than one too. Some password recovery process needs an alternate email address, just an example of the advantage for having multiple email addresses.

Four seems like a reasonable amount to have for your situation.

@sishy7 I guess it is but some people have mentioned how they find it troublesome having more than two. Lol I just say I'm special I can multitask.But all jokes aside I find it easier to keep the different parts of my life separated.Business,Fun,Personal because when I go to that email I know that everything in it is all related to that one thing. I hated trying to have everything mixed .

That's one of the reasons I don't like to have too many unnecessary email accounts.

Oh yes, that would drive me crazy to have too many bank accounts... I usually don't open a new one before closing the previous one. And my main transaction account, I have that one for like... forever!

@sishy7 We've sorted of needed them for various reasons over the years but it's time to close a few now.

Yes, I cannot imagine having any more than what I have now...

Oh, maybe he can help you to close the inactive ones so you won't have them just floating around somewhere...

Yes, my third one should have been a gmail so I won't need to open a fourth one...

Yeah, I was fine with three - personal, work, and for my online activities. I felt kinda forced to create the fourth one, the gmail account.

Won't you get confused of their usernames/passwords or they are all the same?

@sishy7 Thats my problem! Haha I am confused sometimes and forgot the password. Even here in mylot, I already forgot my password. Haha
