Day 10 – Honor
1 Chronicles 17
Honor is equated with honesty, fairness, integrity, respect, worth, merit, fame, and glory. It’s a sign of distinction. Honor is bestowed on military heroes, and members of organizations who performed outstandingly well. Honor is given to students with academic achievements. Anybody can be worthy of honor. Honor is also something we give God because He is worthy in every respect.
David wanted to build God’s house. God told him no. Instead God honored him by telling him he would have a son sit on his throne and his house would be established forever. God also told him his son would build His house.
God gave David a greater honor by establishing his house through all the generations to come. You might look at Israel today and tell yourself there is no king in Israel. True, there isn’t, but the time is coming when a King will sit on the throne again, and His name is Jesus, who is the seed of David and the Son of God. He will sit as KING of Kings and LORD of Lords.
Matthew 1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. (KJV)
Matthew 19:28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. (KJV)
Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
15 And out of his mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
This is the honor God bestowed on David. As Christians we too can take part in the honor God bestowed on David.
1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
If you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, you are of the seed royal and the same honor given to David is yours through the blood of Jesus Christ.
That is a greater honor than can be achieved by our own merits.
Let’s pray: Father, as Your child, help me to realize the honor You gave David, is mine as well through the blood of Your Son, Jesus. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
