Wrap It Up!

Considering it's the holiday season, you'd think I was referring to Christmas presents! However, in this case, I'm referring to your vehicle!
It is becoming more common for businesses to promote themselves by wrapping their company vehicles with advertising messages and/or company logos. You may have seen a few of these vehicles around. It is very common for city buses to be wrapped in advertising. In my city alone, just about every bus is wrapped with advertising for lawyers and legal services.
A new company is banking on the fact that vehicle wrapping will continue to become more popular, and is offering customers monthly payments to have their personal vehicles wrapped with company advertising. People who have signed on can earn anywhere from $300-$500 per month, just for having their vehicles wrapped! The service, which requires an app to be downloaded on a smartphone (which only works when you are in the vehicle), will track your driving habits, miles driven, population density of your area, etc. to track the effectiveness of the advertising wrap on your vehicle. And each month, the money is automatically deposited into your bank account.
This company is currently only in 11 cities in the US, but should be expanding to more in the future. The premise of their success hinges on the fact that advertisers know that they aren't getting the biggest bang for their buck in electronic media. With millions of people using ad-blockers on their computers and smartphones, many of the advertising messages aren't reaching consumers. So when modern technology fails, go back to what has proven to work for hundreds of years...the billboard. But, in this case, the billboard is moving!
What are your thoughts? Would you allow this company to wrap your personal vehicle in exchange for monthly payments? I certainly would! I don't consider my vehicle a status symbol, or personal display of wealth, or anything fancy other than a means to get me from point A to point B. And if I can get paid while driving from point A to B, I'm all for it!

I am not going to have my vehicle wrapped in anything. That is like the vehicle insurance companies want you to put a device on your car for them to track your driving habits for a lower price. I don't think I want my privacy invaded like this so i will not opt for any of these types of things.

I get what you are saying! I've come to the conclusion that we no longer have any privacy whatsoever in this world, so frankly I don't give a darn if somebody is monitoring my driving habits! Besides, did you know that all vehicles manufactured now actually track and record all your driving habits anyway? It's stored on your vehicle's on-board computer, and during accident investigations, insurance companies can retrieve that data to prove or disprove their case? It's kind of scary how much private companies (and even our own government) track and record our every move!

@moffittjc Exactly. And GPS is for your safety? Not. The government just wants to know where you are at all times. They can see your license plate from space for crying out loud.

@moffittjc Unless of course you happen to be on their bad list. Some of the things I've written, I'm probably on their RED list. You know me, I'm not "politically correct" and some of my topics have probably raised flags.

@moffittjc I suppose it depends on the age of the vehicle. After all, who would mutilate a brand new car in that way.

@Asylum That is true! My truck if from 2010, so it's not quite so new anymore. But if I had a 2016 model, maybe I wouldn't be so keen on getting it wrapped!

But it is starting to become much more common to see personal vehicles with wraps on them. I figure, if it is the latest trend, it would be nice to get in at the beginning and make as much money as I can before everyone else does it!

I have a big truck, so I don't worry about aggressive drivers bothering me. I'll just run their butts over if they mess with me! lol

Dang, it's a shame I didn't know about this before when I used to have to drive 2 hours each way to work @moffittjc . I could have made some big money.

See, you would have been the perfect candidate for this service! With a long commute like that, they would have been salivating to have you as a client! I probably won't be so lucky...I only have a 10 minute commute to work, and I really don't drive that much. Last month, I only put 400 miles on my truck for the whole month!

@moffittjc I know what you mean. Since I live just 5 minutes from everything in this little town, I don't put diddly miles on the car.

@nanette64 You're so right! And I try to walk or ride my bike as often as possible, both to get exercise and to save on the cost of gas and wear and tear on my vehicle!
