I could not renew my anti virus subscription

Hello Lotters, It won't be long before my subscription truly ends with Mcafee, which was installed by one of the technicians when I bought this laptop. I thought it was easy if i can just renew it with paypal. I was wrong! while attempting to purchase a one year subscription, I change my location here, and some what the option of payment changes for only two (visa and mastercard). Now, that sucks, my laptop will be vulnerable now to viruses with so many of my files now. As much reluctant as I am, I've just downloaded AVG and it's pro cost fifty dollars, which is even more expensive. Days ago I read about some one ranting about AVG, though I was thankful to his post. Im scared one day I might end up being infiltrated by a virus.

The latest issue with AVG was the discovery that they are selling some of the accrued data to other companies. I can fully appreciate your concern about running without antivirus, which is certainly not recommended these days. personally I use the free version of Avast, which despite being free is quite a decent program and I have had no problems despite using it for several years now.

Hello @Asylum that is not good and makes me furious, because these are classified private data that you have. selling it to the third party is a clear violation. maybe i should have checked other options, but AVG is what my brother suggested so i thought i could get another opinion later.

@Letranknight2015 AVG claim that all data is "cleaned" before being sold and that no personal data is supplied. We both know that nobody is going to spend money on data that cannot be allocated to individuals because if they cannot contact you then the data is worthless.

I have never used McAfee I did have Norton at one time though, but the subscription was just to expensive, so then I went to AVG. Well, I didn't like that one either, and now I have Avast,, of which I paid for, and I do like it as it does a very good job of catching all the viruses. It seems to me that the free ones, just aren't as good as they used to be. I would rather pay for the antivirus and have it do the job, then a free one that doesn't catch them all.

Hello @rosekiss, yeah that's the problem with free versions, you could have a virus that is not detectable by a free version and tends to wwreck your pc from time to time. maybe I will subscribe to a new one next year if i get enough funds.

@Letranknight2015 I had done free ones for awhile too, but I wasn't satisfied with them at all. Norton wasn't free, but yet, there service was awful, as it just didn't catch them all. I am not having any problem with Avast at all, as it catches things that I didn't know were there. It will warn me of a site that is bad, and it won't load it, so that is good. I will no longer use the free ones, and I am sticking with Avast for now.

I used to have a paid virus scan, but after the subscription ends, I do not want to waste money on it. One of the reasons is that my hard disk lifespan is less than the period of coverage. if I have to pay for my hard disk, I might as well save money on the anti-virus.

I hope you are now protected even if it costs you a lot of money for the protection.
