The truth about 'Elf on the Shelf'

United States
December 9, 2015 11:37am CST
If you have been living in a cave it is possibly you haven't seen or heard of "Elf on the Shelf"....last year Facebook was inundated with this silly little guy. He turned up on bookshelves, in washing machines, under bushes and up in trees. It got to be a little too much. Now I found out that "Elf on the Shelf" came to be in none other than my State of Tennessee. Go figure! In order not to reinvent wheel regarding the truth about this elf, you can read about it for yourself. Photo: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Elf_on_the_Shelf_poses_01.JPG
At Christmas time, adoptable pixie-elves take up residence in millions of homes around the globe.

He would be no use to me because I cannot screw shelves into the rock walls of my cave.

@AbbyGreenhill It is very unkind of you to suggest that "crazy" glue would suit me best.

@TheHorse and @owlwings I am surprised that so many haven't seen or heard about the little guy. Maybe he was just in my dreams!

I did not know where he came from, he just seemed to appear in society. Thanks for the solution.

I am afraid I have not been clued in on this tradition. I did know about the garden knome that traveled around the world from place to place and had pictures taken with his hosts and a sign of the city/state he was in at the time and he even traveled overseas as well.

I suppose we have him over here although I haven't heard much about him. But then I don't know a lot of people with young kids.

I have head of it and it is good for the season with families with young kids. I know someone who uses an angel in the same manner and uses it year round.

I have read about this elf since last year. I didn't know if this tradition has been very long time or someone just created this lately. Thank you for sharing the article.

My daughter is grown (22), so we missed out on the tradition. I read somewhere that this is to encourage children to be good during the holidays, but I didn't see that in the article, and actually, I'm kind of glad I missed out on this 'tradition'. I do love Christmas, but that's an awful lot of work.

I heard about this little Elf last year, but our 2 sons are now adults, so it was too late for us to use it for them. I think it's a cute thing.
