Our life together started as a blind date

Yes, I admit it, we were set up by mutual friends. My now husband was a widower and worked at the local library. One of the woman at the library lived in my condo complex. I had been divorced for 16 years and wasn't looking for a second marriage - no thanks! The woman who lived near me tried talking me into going out with the wonderful man. No way...I said 'no' many many times. Finally, I gave in. One Saturday I was at our pool enjoying myself and when I got home there was a message from 'the man' asking me out to dinner that night..well talk about short notice! I waited several hours before I returned the call and said no thanks since it was late. We decided to get together and meet each other a few days later. We met, we were uncomfortable with each other - we were total opposites. He: * smoked non filter cigs, one after another * drank Pepsi * hated chicken * wore cowboy boots * loved country music * and the list goes on Me: * smoked Marlboro * drank Coke * lived on chicken * wore sneakers * hated country music * and the list goes on We decided it wouldn't work and that went over like a lead balloon. The library ladies talked both of us into trying again. We did...we went out to dinner and it was very nice. Now, 18 years later we learned to compromise. I even bought boots, but found I wasn't that comfortable in them! He will eat chicken and almost likes it now! We both quit smoking in 2001. I guess some blind dates are just meant to be.

Thank you! There were many more opposites - he had kids I didn't and that was a big red flag!

My husband of 47 years and I met on a blind date as well. It seems that it can work out very well indeed, it obviously did for the two of us lol

Wow..there are similarities to arranged marriage in this. :) I guess neither expects anything and so accepting becomes easier.

@vandana7 The difference is we have a choice, if the date goes bad we can say no.

@BelleStarr ..yeah..here only the guy has the choice, the girl goes like some animal to slaughterhouse. Ok..not so bad, but ...at times close to that.

Aw! They do say opposites attract. It seems they are right, at least in your relationship. I'm glad for your sake you both gave it another chance. =) My husband and I met online-we are opposite in many things but the bigger more important things (helping others, raising children, the love we share, our faith, etc) we are on the same page with.

Congratulations on quitting smoking. Such a dirty habit and so unhealthy I smoked for years too. Congratulations on the blind date and saying yes to the guy. It sounds like you two are good for each other.

Ha, I love the list. Isn't that amazing that two totally opposite people can just fall for each other? It's funny how that works out. A yin/yang thing I would guess!
