I am allergic to Patchouli

I am apparently allergic to patchouli. It is a bit of a shame because I like the smell. I bought soap with it in a few months ago but I thought it was one of the other active ingredients that made me itchy with dry skin. Apparently not as a deodorant I've been using for over a week has started to make a rash on my skin. Well that's unfortunate but I suppose I'll have to find another natural alternative. The deodorant is Pit Paste, a brand I got off of amazon. I'll look to see if there are other alternatives within that brand and if not I'll go to etsy.

It's hard when you like something to find you're allergic to it.

it is just odd to me that it took a little while of using it before the reaction.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That's not odd to me. I have food allergies to chicken and peanuts, but didn't realize either of them until I was in my teens. With chicken my parents thought I had motion sickness since I was always getting sick on the way home from Grandma's. For peanuts I was a lot older still. When we eat, we don't eat just one thing, we eat many things together, so it wasn't until I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich only that I figured it out. At least you didn't wait years before you found out.

If you are allergic definitely you can go for an alternative option.

yes I love it! It also makes me feel connected to my late mom somewhat as she was a crafter. Around this time of year she would make soaps for gifts.

It's a shame you're allergic to patchouli but good that you found out what is causing your rash. Sometimes these things are hard to pick.

It was the only recently new item that I've used, so I knew it had to be it. I'm glad I didn't have to go through a trial and error to see what it was.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Sometimes it takes a very long time to work out what is causing an allergic reaction.

@JudyEv I am trying to think of a time that I have ever been allergic to something and not known it pretty fast. I can't think of anything off hand but then again i am not allergic too much.

I have no idea what that is but it must suck if you really like it. :-( I know I have a hard time with certain soaps because they make me itchy. Along with anything that has scents like laundry soap too

Bar soap tends to make my skin dry and itchy anyway. I guess it's all the product they have to put in it, but it just cakes on my skin and makes me itchy. I haven't found any laundry soap that has made me break out or be itchy but I hate the smell of them pretty much now. I don't stock the aisle regularly, but sometimes have to stock the aisle with all those soaps and dryer sheets. Makes my sinuses clog up.

@T_gray It is really cheap to make your own laundry soap as well, which is an added bonus.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I am not a fan of the smell of laundry soap either. My best friend actually makes homemade laundry soap and gives me some...it is scent free...i love it.

most of my friends that burn that stuff do so as it's supposed to disguise the smell of weed. My brother in law bought into that before doing three years in jail for a cannabis factory

Maybe one of the ingridient is harsh on you or too much for you

Patchouli is the actual ingredient. When I used teh soap it wasn't too bad but with sensitive skin at the arm pit, it's worse.

I am using a shampoo bar with patchouli and it blackens my hair, and promotes hair growth as well. I like the herbal-ly smell too.

I didn't realize patchouli blackens hair. I am glad I never used it as a shampoo then. I hate I am allergic to it as I love the smell.
