As I work in a school we have been busy recently learning about Christmas .... the true meaning and the fun side....the children are 3 and 4 years old.
We saw a picture of the elves working in Santa's workshop and it made me think .... does Santa pay the elves for the work that they do ?
and
Where do they all sleep ?
Do they have families that they go home to ?
Why does Santa only have boy elves ?
Your thoughts please .....

I doubt he pays them I think its more a way of life for them. They work making toys and they live rent free in small little houses. They are probably all boys because they are magical creatures kind of like the smurfs no need to reproduce they live centuries.

@lokisdad I have been told by close relatives that I am like a big kid. My sister and I always had big imaginations as small kids and that imagination is still with me as an adult.

@Traceyjayne My wife tells people I am like one of the kids and I am we hang out and do kids stuff I have to be into what they are into so we can have more to bond over. Besides it gives me a legitimate reason to be childlike.

haha cute.
Well since it is all fake, you can pretty much make up whatever you want,
Maybe the Northpole is a happy little village where the elves do get paid for their work. They all work in shifts. When they aren't working they go home to their happy little families.
Not sure about them being all boy elves. Harder workers? Maybe the Northpole is very old fashioned where they don't respect women so they stay at home lol I don't know.

@MALUSE hahaha maybe the elves are immune to the cold. I really have no clue. I am just going off by what I've seen in story books.

At least one of the stories that I have been reading the children at Tea With Santa has girl elves. The women elves are assumed to be raising families, cooking meals for their menfolk, making teddy bears, arranging dolls' hair and, presumably, doing all the other things which women have traditionally done around the house. In some stories, the elves are seen to be living in large dormitories, so, perhaps the Christmas business is seasonal work for which they travel from their homes in the forests of Northern Europe to the North Pole.
I think that, if there is any currency, elves must be paid in the usual currency that one finds on Christmas trees and in Christmas stockings - chocolate coins.

it's a sexist sweat shop - the elves need to unionise themselves like Dobby and the Hogwarts house-elves

I never thought about that. I don't think Santa pays the elves because they make the toys out of the generosity of their hearts. I think they sleep in a bedroom at the toy work shop. They have families they visit from time to time and they are boys because those particular elves knew how to make the toys the best (it just happened they were boys).
