Technology is a wonderful thing, when it works

The local school board has instituted a new reporting system for reporting absences. You can do this via a website, app or by calling a specific phone number.
Yesterday it worked, today it did not.
Thankfully you can still report absences the old way, by calling the school directly. And they have now fixed the technical issue that was making the website, app and phone number not work, but not until school was already in session.
The school board is implementing online ways to do many things, such as payments as well. I guess everything is taking advantage of technology.

Sooner or later, they will close down schools, and ask the children to study online from home.
I think that will become a reality many years later.
The teacher will know the students have login by seeing them through webcam, and she can teach them via technology too.

I hope it doesn't go that far. the kids need social interaction, and while a good homeschooling parent can ensure they get that, there are many parents who wouldn't.

More technology means less personal contact. I hate getting an answering machine or being unable to make human contact because all the technology gets in the way. There should be a limit to how far it should go.

Very much agreed. I still like to make contact with the teachers often, and even the secretary and principal. The principal is generally outside every morning and very nice to talk to.

We never had this sort of thing when my kids were in school. Hate when the do new things then they don't even work.
