Day 22 – Willing Heart
1 Chronicles 29
When are you most apt to do something? Isn’t it when the person asking also does what he or she asks of us? Motivational speakers are good at getting people to respond to whatever they are passionate about because they invested a lot of time, effort, and money in their project, and they want other people to enjoy the benefits of whatever program they are passionate about and give a motivational speech geared at causing people to give into their program.
David provided all the necessary materials for the temple Solomon would build. As the primary provider for the work of the temple, he then persuaded the people to give as they could to the building fund, and the people responded generously, giving what they had for the work.
When David saw their generosity, he blessed the Lord for all His goodness to them.
There are many motivational speakers, and many projects we could invest our money in, but when God lays it on our heart to move according to His Word, and we give as the Lord enables us for His work, God blesses us for our generosity.
I am not telling you to give to every person who asks you to give into their ministry. That is foolish. You give first to your local church – that is your tithe. The next thing you are to do is the work of the kingdom – taking care of widows and orphans – that is your offering. Last, if God lays it on your heart, and you only know that if you are in prayer, seeking God’s wisdom in the matter, then you give as God enables you to give to bless whomever God leads you to. You will know it is of God because God’s hand is in the project.
David had a heart for God. He was known as the man after God’s heart. His desire was to build the temple of the Lord for His glory and honor. However, God told him He had another person in mind for that honor – David’s son, Solomon. However, that did not deter David from providing the materials for the building.
When you know the heart of the person making the request, and it lines up with the work of the ministry, and God lays it on your heart to give, then you will be blessed abundantly for your faithfulness to God.
Let’sI pray: Father, give me a willing heart to serve You. Help me know who is faithful to You as I consider the work of Your kingdom, giving first to the local church, helping widows and orphans, and providing as You counsel me for the work You ordain. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Good post on the subject, I would add some things for the sake of clairty, in the New Testament church, giving to and caring for widows and orphans was part of the work of the Church-it is how the role of deacon arose in Acts. To the New Testament Church, the 2 ideas were related because while the Gospel was proclaimed through the words, it was demonstrated within the life of the community by their care for one another. That is, giving to the Church for the work of ministry, and caring for the needs of the community, it's most vulnerable, was part of the work of ministry-God's kingdom in action and a firstfruit of the Messianic era which had begun in Jesus resurrection and the Gift of the Holy Spirit.
