We have 2 pregnant dogs, Trixie the local bred mutt, and Macy, the pure-bred Japanese Spitz. Macy has a brother Zander, who mated Trixie. Thor also rode on Trixie. But to Macy, it was only Thor who rode on her.
This afternoon, Macy was restless; she went outside and lied down, until I called her to come in. She stayed at the corner of the living room. My sister thought Macy will definitely deliver her puppies.
True enough, my son saw Macy chewing the placenta of the first-born to open the sac and have the puppy breath air. Another came out after 20 minutes. We did not touch the puppies. Thor was whining. Now we had a good look at the 2 puppies- they have spots like their father.
It is so nice to see your pets give birth, isn’t it? My son took a video of the actual licking of Macy on the placenta. The blanket I placed was fixed my Macy to provide warmth to her 2 new puppies.

Yes it is. I had a dog many years ago that had puppies. It was interesting to watch her give birth. She had eleven pups on her first litter, ten on her second, and nine on her third. We only saw the first litter born. The other two she found a place to hide and we had to find her and the pups. They were in a good place, so we left her alone.

@ridingbet She killed one and we buried it in the back yard. I doubt they would still be alive, this was back in the 80s. We gave the pups away free to hopefully good homes.

@ridingbet No that one was not eaten, we found it under her. We don't know why she killed it. There was another pup in another litter that was also killed. We found it in the basement where she gave birth. We felt that one was eaten by the cat, but we had no proof, only that we never found the pup so we could bury it.

@ridingbet I was worried because births do not always go right.

@ElizabethWallace we had some dog births now; unfortunately, some die because of hypothermia or lack of milk intake.

@ridingbet just keep them warm with the light bulb, and some cartons so they will not feel the cold floor. They are active in suckling too, right?

thank you, but we have to be extra careful here. The rabies bacteria in their saliva is so potent, and a bite can cause a life go bad
