People say . . .! Really?

To all the people out there that might want to visit S A for a Safari, or a visit to the beautiful coastal resorts take heed -
"Cape Town has been ranked by National Geographic as the world's second-best beach city in their latest Top 10 list."
In the Top 5 Game Reserves of the World we find the Kruger National Park!
As previously posted - Kimberley Diamond mine is the largest man made hole in the world which has produced the most exquisite diamonds that the Queen and other famous people wear.
SA has the Deepest Gold mine in the world - and is the 3rd most producing Gold country in the world.
SA is home to many other great things - we have tar roads, we have 5* Hotels, we have Ferrari's, Porsche's and beautiful homes, are children all are educated in the British Queens English first language before Afrikaans or any other african language. Our education gets us into Oxford University, we work hard - we are not primitive and NOT STUPID either.
BUT today Inge was told - People say . . . . People that come to SA with blinkers over their eyes and expect it to be a petting zoo, you are going to be sadly mistaken - DONT listen to those PEOPLE who SAY~~
I was just as mislead by some people that said to me that France stinks and they are unfriendly, Italians are rude and in my own discovery I found that none of that was true, but rather the DUTCH were the rude ones. I loved Germany despite what people said = When you travel - do it with your eyes open wide and make your own assumptions.
We are considering cancelling our trip to Cape Town, because 'People Say ...' have had a great influence on the NewYorker that cannot get past that mindset.
Oh Boy, what an upheaval of a whirlwind!

I think it is also rude to judge others by how people act at home, for example certain cultures have MUCH smaller personal spaces, so how are people rude if they are acting welcoming by THIER standards. But that also means that you need to know how to say excuse me, and pardon, please, thank you, etc. And like in Japan when you are expected to bow, take off shoes, etc.

I think the smartest thing to do when traveling is to learn the "polite" word, like bitte or pardon.

SA is a wonderful place. Gorgeous and with charming people. They are smart, educated, pushy and polite.

Hmm. Upheaval of a whirlwind. I am trying to imagine that. Sounds like a nice place though.

It's so important to judge for yourself. When I planned my trip to continental Europe many years ago I was told all sorts of rot about peoples and places. Contrary to my advice, I found the French completely charming, the Italians modest and accommodating, and Venice overrated and lifeless. No doubt others might disagree, but that's the whole point isn't it?

National Geographic is wrong. The beaches in the Wrstetn Cape are number one, in my opinion, and I am from SoCal, and an expert on beaches. I loved my two years in Cape Town, and would move there permanently if Medicare coverage worked there!

I love it when you come to my rescue. Well we have decided that we are going to CT regardless - we will leave the NewYorker at the bus station to fend for himself is he has a problem going with us to have a sunset picnic on Table Mountain etc.

@ElizabethWallace I shall think of you when I stop over and have tea with a friend who lives behind Camps Bay Hotel - I shall look out for your little Italian place in Hout Bay - I have a picture in my mind where it might be - it almost has it verandah next to the road.

@Inlemay If it is still there, my favorite restaurant is an Italain place on Beach Road in Hout Bay. Cannot beat the peace of the bay, but for beautiful beaches, it's Camps Bay, hands down.
