How Do You Know If Your Cat Is Pregnant?

My boyfriend thinks our cat Mary might be pregnant. I'm not so sure. It's very possible as she roamed around freely outside less than a month ago, before we took her in. Her belly seems to be getting bigger, but I don't know if it's because she's eating more now or because she is pregnant. Also, she is ALWAYS hungry! Are there ways you can tell if a cat is pregnant? Or am I just going to have to wait and see? Pfft... I can imagine, Christmas night, surprise! Out comes a bunch of kittens.

If a cat or dog is pregnant all you need to do is check their belly to see if their titis are starting to come out. If they are growing larger and not hidden like before then yes she will be having kittens soon.

Her titis are swollen and her belly is sticking out a lot on the sides. I think she is pregnant.

@Angelee_27 Yes she is. Normally it takes 2 months and the babies will arrive. You can see this after 2 or 3 weeks. I was amazed to find out that a dog and cat say in heat for 1 month. During the first week to week and a half of their heat they can't conceive babies. But it is the other time after this that they can conceive babies. One person said it depends on how often they mate is how many babies. I personally don't think this one is true. But then I did read that a cat and dog can have more than one donor for their babies. So if they mate with 2 or 3 different cats this can determine the babies. I have no idea if this one is actually true or not. But from what it sounds like you should have around 2 to 3 more weeks before the kitten comes. BTW a female cat can start having kitten when they are only 6 months. A dog first goes into heat when it is a year old. Cats can have kitten at a younger age than a dog. If you have a dog they say that they should pass 3 heats before you allow them to mate. I guess a dog needs more maturity in order to mate and raise the babies than a cat needs. But most vets say that they are too young to have kitten at 6 months. They recommend you fix them by 5 months male and female cats. For a dog a male dog should be fixed around 5 months and a female around 11 months.

Since my cats had never had their babies, so I can't share experience with you here. But I doubt whether you can buy the pregnant test for your cat? If it works for human beings, it shall work for cats, too

If you know she hasn't been spayed, then she should have a heat cycle regularly. My cat, before she was spayed, would walk around with her tail held high and meow very loudly and differently from her normal meows. It would last a few days and then she would be normal again.

Yes, she just had her heat cycle right before we took her in! So, that is also why we are thinking she could be pregnant. She was around a lot of male cats at the time.
