Deserts: Do You Know Where The Largest Ones Are?

The largest desert in the world, of course, is the Sahara in North Africa. It is three million, five hundred thousand square miles.
It was so funny today. I went to the grocery store. Big mistake. It was so crowded. Anyway the checkout girl said that her mouth was a dry as the Sahara. She hadn't had a break for a long time and she was thirsty. I had just read some notes that I had in one of my notebooks about deserts and had planned to write a short article about it later today, so I told her how big the Sahara actually was, and she was amazed.
Next in line to the Sahara, is the Australian Desert, in Australia, of course. It is one million, four hundred and seventy thousand square miles.
Third in line is the Arabian Desert in Southwest Asia at 502,000 square miles. Fourth is the Gobi Desert in Central Asia, at 401,500 square miles.
Fifth is the Kalahari Desert in Southern Africa, at 201,000 square miles.
The next six in order of size are:
Turkestan Desert, Central Asia = 174,000 square miles
Takla Makan Desert in China = 125,000 square miles
Namib Desert, Southwest Africa = 120,000 square miles
Sonoran Desert, U.S./Mexico = 120,000 square miles
Somali Desert, Somalia = 100,000 square miles
Thar Desert, India/Pakistan = 100,000 square miles
I knew about most of them, but some I was not aware of. I was discussing the subject with my daughter and we looked them all up. Interesting, after I added up all the square miles total, I thought that 10 million, 327 thousand square miles of land was a LOT of land, that is nothing but desert.
What if all of those square miles of land were producing FOOD for the world? Famine might actually be eliminated, right?
Well, did you know that the earth RIGHT NOW, produces plenty of food for all, but it's mismanaged, mostly by dishonest rulers, who are themselves very wealthy and who eat lavishly every single day?
And merchants who would rather let the food rot on the dock, than to sell it at an affordable price or give it to the starving people of the world.
I was thinking about the cruises that I have been on and the abundance of food that is served at every meal and much of which is thrown out into the sea at the end of the day.
If these cruise ships would just come into areas where people are starving and let them eat all of that food that is thrown away...
Did you know that you can order a meal on a cruise ship and after just tasting it, you can ask the waiter to take it away and bring you something else? The food that you tasted is then disposed. What a waste.
What do you think about all of this?
