A Word of Advice

It seems a little unusual for someone who is relatively new on Mylot to give advice, but somehow I can't resist. It has been around two months since I discovered/was introduced to Mylot. For the first few weeks I had little internet access and even less time to spend here. There was no time to explore the site. Each time I would read, like and comment on a few discussions. When time permitted I would submit a discussion of my own. Over the last few days I have had unlimited internet access as well as a little more time to explore. One of the tabs I discovered was "New User". This led me to another discovery. Volume! Why do do many of the new users feel that quantity is the way to prosper. They have been members for a day or two and have submitted many, many discussions on an endless variety of topics. When I see twenty submissions from new writers and realize that there are only three names reappearing, I shake my head and move on without even reading their discussions. One or two well written, thoughtful discussions, would draw more readers and possible followers.

If they post after post after post I just ignore them. They are often just one-liners too. They will either learn, or get kicked off the site for spamming.

@ridingbet It makes you wonder what people are thinking by commenting on those sort of posts.

@jaboUK I have commented on the odd one line post. It could be a question that intrigued me. Most of the time I just move on. You'll notice I don't post one line posts. Even my comments are often longer than some posts.

I thought the "new user" is only for the newbies with one discussion posted? I'd better check that tab out. Thank you!

I have seen users there who appear for several days.

@ridingbet @Morleyhunt They changed the 'new user' a while ago to include anything a new user has written until they have been here for a week.

@jaboUK really? So I am no longer considered a new user, right? Thanks!

They probably are trying out different strategies. Once they see that many discussions do not lead to earnings, they will stop that and they will start to mingle and make friends. It takes time for them to learn.

I always wonder why they submit so many without looking to see what others have done.

Can I be perfectly honest? 1) some have the same mentality as spammers that fill up your email box 2) some really are not sure what to do to get attention I think your post is mostly addressing the second kind. You are wise to step over the first kind.

When I was on Bubblews I was on a crusade to rid the site of spammers, plagiarizes, and other abusers. For a while I was outing at least one a day.

@Morleyhunt I think the site actually benefited from the spammers, i did my share of reporting but they just keep on coming. but on this site, once you report a spammer, they are thrown out for sure.

They think making discussions that has zero interactions on it would help them make a buck. well, that was true back in 2008, today if no one responds or if you don't interact with your own post, there's nothing to earn. so better keep the discussion alive if some one were to respond to your post.

@Morleyhunt yeah we've been telling that since the dawn of the new mylot format (not this one) but still some just don't listen.

Interaction is more important than submitting multiple discussions.

I check new users and no responses every day first thing in the morning. Its my way of waking up. Many of those who post dozens of one sentence posts are removed and come back to spam us again and get removed the second time too. I've even found one sentence posts that were copied and pasted. Several now gone members couldn't read or write in English so copy and paste was the way of participation...

Hi some new user are maybe trying to navigate to see how my lot work. Then there might be some that all ways did ten a day on the site that close down. Some time it hard to break old habits .All so some people just have stuff popping in their head that they have to write down. There is other writing site if you have ten have to wait the next day. Some of the people can not wait or they might forget what they want to write about.

I completely agree with your way of thinking. I think your interaction with people in answering questions and making meaningful comments is most important.

There have been many posts suggesting that these people refrain from posting so many discussions but I don't think they're reading - or at least not taking in the advice. I rarely go there now.

I understand the learning part, but many of these new users have more discussions posted in a day than I have in total after two months.

@Morleyhunt That's true but most people can't cope with even starting to read them.

@morleyhunt Nice meeting you. Your advice is indeed a boon to the newcomers [that is if only they listen] I suppose, they'll learn with time.Hopefully, those who really need your advice, will read your post. Thanks anyway.

Since I know you from bubble I do not feel new here :) unless I get a new name but that could also be someone from bubble who wished to change their name. I can manage one post a day right now as I am writing at other sites , but those are 300 word articles.

Quality over quantity has always been the key. One discussion per day can easily attract a lot of interaction if it catches the attention of users.

The one below that, "No Responses" can be an interesting place at times. You still need long legs to pace over the multi-posts from the same user though.

You are not wrong there. Even some regular members do it. I might only read one or two but certainly not more. I prefer to spread myself around a bit more.

First they don't read the rules. It's not how many posts it's the discussions that follow. It's about the almighty buck as we say in the US, that leads many to do this, mistakenly on their part.

Though a new user at this site, I have been quite active for years at writing platforms. Quality trumps quantity anytime in whatever we do - siva
