We can rise above our circumstances

Reading through some of the posts I am struck by the sadness and difficulties which surround so many of us especially at Christmas. I recall that the First Christmas was surrounded by difficulties too. I would like to share the following"
The First Christmas.
A country occupied by Rome,
A teenage mother far from home,
A manger where a baby lay
In Bethlehem on Christmas Day.
God's purposes unhindered then
By circumstance or wicked men.
When hopes arise of prospects fall
Our 'God is with us' through them all.
Each day, each year He is the same
Emmanuel in deed and name.
NB the name 'Emmanuel' means 'God with us'.

Your poem is lovely and shares that even then it wasn't easy. That all things are possible,

It certainly wasn't easy, the times they lived in were very hard, Mary and Joseph were turned into refugees and a massacre took place of all the babies under 2 years old in Bethlehem. Things have not changed much in the world ....

good you are reminding us what Christmas really is all about and its not Santa Claus' birthday either. The nativity is a beautiful thing that
should stop S anta in his tracks.

I believe children should know the difference between Santa Clause the fairy story, and Jesus the baby born in Bethlehem. Only their parents are going to help them do that. This year the film of Noah has confused everyone, adults included...reality is easily lost in this high tech age.

Great insight. This time of year is very difficult for a lot of people. If they are weak to begin trying to do something in a weakened time would be very difficult indeed.

great poem ... and so true.... like you say many people have problems, and at this time of year they seem to be magnified even more... very difficult....
