What have you found by metal detecting?

I have a standard metal detector and have just used it during the last summer. Personally I have found a few small coins like penny's and some pieces of metal but have not found any pirate treasure ie gold coins or silver coins.
Please let me know your stories or findings regarding treasure hunting.

My kids had one at one time. We found old cans, pipes, a metal button and some other odd stuff.
My dad had an MScope when I was a kid. It was two meters that you held in front and back of you. They were mounted on two long boards. You step inside, pull the whole thing up.
We looked for gold, silver and other metals. We did stake some claims on the veins of ore he found.

I have a metal detector but it is packed away in a storage locker. I never really found anything significant iwth it.

I do not have a metal detector although we often see people scanning the beaches at the end of the day!

Your post has reminded me that I always wanted a metal detector. Have moved to a more desert region that has quite a history. I am buying myself one (thanks to you) as a gift to myself and will update you on any finds. Any piece of history would be a treasure to find in my opinion.
